I’m not sure if you cudos was supposed to be sarcastic but I see nothing wrong with anything the Pope said or did.

No, not sarcastic. Why would you think that. I think if he offends those groups he’s doing his job. Prick their consciences, you know.

I thought the article was funny because it gives quotes from all of these different dissenter groups that, by and large, should be criticized.

And not one quote or bit of info about the 800,000 people who turned out in support of our beloved papa! So much for balanced reporting.
 
Nothing in the secular newspapers either about the huge numbers who turned out. What a surprise :dts:
 
I watched on EWTN. I didn’t like the voiceover coverage (don’t like Raymond Arroyo). From what I could really tell the Pope was saying, I didn’t find anything objectionable. But, we’re talking cultural and political differences here.

He naturally went up before large crowds where he was very welcome, and said things that would be popular there.

I thought the crowds came across as a bit too rowdy.
 
I’m glad some of you are so upbeat about the Brazil visit. Everything I am reading in the secular media, print and online, indicates that BXVI’s reception was lukewarm at best.

Yes, it reminded me of when my Dad used to look at me when I did not follow rules. I really did not want to talk much to him at that time. 😉
 
What I saw from the crowds when I was watching on EWTN seemed quite positive. I suspect major media spin.
 
Who knows may be there will be a wide spread conversion of Pro-abortion, Marxist Commie, deep-routed Homosexuals of Amazonian indian decent?

So what is the Pope supposed to say? Sorry you guys, you should go back to your pre-Christian religious practices. Those were really better than this religion that I’m the earthly head of.

Of course he’s not going to say that! The thing about the Pope is, he actually believes what the Catholic church teaches. He believes the Gospels. He believes in Jesus Christ. Who commanded his disciples, the Church, to go and make disciples of all nations. He didn’t tell them to pass over the South American Indians because they had a good religion already.

Yes, we were much more coercive back then. So do they want Benedict to apologize for that? Fine. Ends don’t justify means. But I think it’s a basic Christian teaching that we’re better off as Christians. Otherwise, why be Christian at all? And it’s basic Christian teaching that Christ came for all of mankind, not just Western Europeans. And that there is a longing in our heart for God, that finds its fulfillment in Christ, not in pre-Columbian Indian religions, but in Christ. So Benedict was not in error.

One must always remember: dog bites man isn’t news. Man bites dog is news.

Be it the Pope, the President or the Dhali Llama, a big crowd of supporters isn’t news, it is the minority of detractors who show up that make front page news.
