What happens if the Pope decided to convert to Anglican, Orthodoxy or even another religion what would happen?

Anglican never. Orthodox? :hmmm: I don’t think he would be Catholic if he converts. Another would have take his place.

If a pope would leave the Church, then he is no longer the Pope. A new one would have to be selected.

That would have been easier to answer in the past, before Orthodoxy was regarded as a sister-church by Rome. Even so, a Pope who became Orthodox would cease to be in communion with the CC (in the RC sense of CC), so he would no longer be a bishop in it.​

From that, it follows that his comunion with the CC would be even more incomplete, the further from the CC he moved; an Anglican ex-Pope would be less incompletely Catholic than an SDA ex-Pope, who would be etc., than a Buddhist.

But to be Pope of Rome at all, a man has to be a member of the CC (in the RC sense of the phrase)

Once he was Pope no more, a successor would have to be chosen.

not that it would ever… ever… ever happen but…

i think it would go to show that the pope would not be infallible in the areas of faith and morals. if the pope abandoned the catholic faith, then the office of the pope would have to come into question. again, this would (and according to catholic doctrine could) never happen.

Actully, I would agree if as he converted, or before, he told the Church that we should go with him. Otherwise, it would be one man’s choice. It is like the popes that had mistresses, totally immoral but not a sign of lack of infalibilty, only a sign of a weak man.
 
but even while those popes had mistresses, they still said it was wrong to have mistresses. if a pope left the church and actually joined a schismatic group, he would be saying that that was right and i would see that as a failure of the office.

Ok. So, based on this logic, can it be said that the fact that no pope has ever converted be taken as minor proof of the infallibility of the office?

i wouldn’t say the fact that none have ever “converted” is proof. i think that no pope has ever gone against what the church teaches on faith and morals would be good evidence.

If he were converting to Orthodoxy, he would likely pursue the unification of the two Churches - in which case he wouldn’t have to convert.

Unity is what Christ has called us to and the Pope and Patriarchs are most responsible for doing what is necessary to see that their comander and chief, Jesus, orders are followed out and that we are united. Glad I’m not in their shoes!
 
One could imply if the Pope converted to Eastern Orthodox, Catholicism and Orthodoxy would be unified…
