“Episcopal.”The Priest brought this up at mass today and said all the pope is saying is that the catholic Church is the original church - the rest are all just break off’s. He was not saying that the Catholic church is the only way to salvation but certainly not all other churches have it right. For example, some Christian denominations only came about coz some king in England could not get a divorce so he broke away from the catholics and started I think C of E which would be episcople (spell?) in the USA. thats my take anyway![]()
Sin is disobedience to God’s Word. Because of Adam’s disobedience, judgment of eternal damnation has been passed onto all of mankind… not just a “stain of a sinful nature”. We all have a serious sin problem that needs to be dealt with. God has provided only one way to deal with this problem and it is through faith only.Believers, maybe it will be helpful for me to understand your denial of Purgatory by first understanding your understanding of sin and salvation. Please don’t quote scripture. I wish to know in your own words what you believe the Bible teaches on these things.
Do you believe sin actually wounds or affects your soul?
If so I do not understand why you deny Purgatory.
Your soul will still be wounded when you die if you have yet to repent of venial sins. But we must be perfect to enter the Kingdom, right. So unless your perfect when you die you can only got to Hell.
God in his infinite mercy allows for Purgatory so that those who die before confessing these small infractions against Gods will can still be saved.
The Bible is clear that even anger is an afront to Gods eminance. Have you gotten angry lately. Ever been cut off in traffic. Or when you were in school ever cheat on a test, copy homework, lie to a teacher. Those are sins.
Unless you believe that a Christian can get into the Kingdom without repenting from there sins. (if you do then I’m sure I won’t be the only one to have a few questions for you)
You must believe in Purgatory
Thank you!! The voice of sweet reason!!I think that it is totally unworthy to suggest that there is something wrong with the Pope because he was in the Hitler Youth, whether or not it was voluntary. I have many disagreements with the Church’s teaching but something like this is silly. Are we to think any less of Paul because he previously persecuted Christians?
With all due respect:Well I say maybe you don’t really know exactly what the Catholic church teaches. There is a difference between what a person “believes” about Catholic dogma, and fact.
I’m not trying to belittle anyone, but a very high percentage of individuals here are misinformed when they talk about what the Catholic church teaches.
God Bless,
Robert
In:shrug: your personal opinion.Purgatory is not in the Word of God.
Are you saying that you think there was some other disciple at the foot of the cross with Mary, not John, the disciple whom Jesus loved? How do you know it was John?
One might. Then again, one might sow weeds:Mar 4:14
The sower soweth the word.
John 21:24 This is that disciple who giveth testimony of these things, and hath written these things; and we know that his testimony is true. The Word does not say it was John. I have no problem with being corrected but I’d like to see the verse if I’m wrong. I believe it is RCC tradition that says it was John.
Please demonstrate where Jesus told Mary He was not here for her.first of all. I do not believe in praying the rosary. i can pray to jesus directly. second, when mary stuck her nose in jesus ministry, he told her he was here to do his fathers works, not here for her.
Perhaps a “yes” dummie? :yup:you are talking to no dummie.
This whole thread is dangerously close to getting closed for being off topic. I moved the purgatory topic to here:Let’s just take one verse. The first verse has nothing to do with Purgatory.
Mt 5:48 - be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect
Mat 5:44
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
Mat 5:45
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Mat 5:46
For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
Mat 5:47
And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more [than others]? do not even the publicans so?
Mat 5:48
Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
Here’s the second verse. Again, no purgatory. Heb 12:14 - strive for that holiness without which cannot see God
Hbr 12:14
Follow peace with all [men], and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
Third, “Jam 3:2 - we all fall short in many respects” (!!!)
Jam 3:1
My brethren, be not many masters, **knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
**
Jam 3:2
For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same [is] a perfect man, [and] able also to bridle the whole body.
HiNot at all. john was there, that is why, jesus said to him to watch his mother. so in my view james is not jesus brother as some claim. Jesus would have had told john to have james watch his mother. That was the custom in those days. A son would be responsible for the mother not a another person.
This is protestant preaching. You know I was a Protestant. Your argument is not better than our. It helps to illustrate if we do just one thing that is different not five or whatever.Sin is disobedience to God’s Word. Because of Adam’s disobedience, judgment of eternal damnation has been passed onto all of mankind… not just a “stain of a sinful nature”. We all have a serious sin problem that needs to be dealt with. God has provided only one way to deal with this problem and it is through faith only.
New Testament salvation is by Grace through faith alone. Faith is believing and obeying ONLY God’s Word. God’s Word says repentance is absolutely necessary.
By Grace through faith is simple yet complex. God provided a door and the only way to enter is with the correct faith. If you have faith that is vain, the door is closed. In other words, you’ve fallen from grace. If you have the correct faith, you are justified.
Purgatory is not in the Word of God.
48 And seeing him, they wondered. And his mother said to him: Son, why hast thou done so to us? behold thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. 49 And he said to them: How is it that you sought me? did you not know, that I must be about my father’s business? 50 And they understood not the word that he spoke unto them.
First, Jesus was 12 when he said this. By Jewish law, He was not even a man, but a child.51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them. And his mother kept all these words in her heart
