Pope-emeritus Benedict XVI spent his first evening of retirement quietly, praying and listening to music, a Vatican spokesman told reporters. Father Federico Lombardi said that the …

This article, with such a rather odd title, is rich in information and with splended photographs about his life now and about his departure.

I’m longing to do the same as I contemplate retirement: hitting the sofa, watching TV, maybe playing the piano in the evening (although I don’t have a piano).

I extend my prayers to Pope Benedict for inner peace and serenity as, according to his own words, he begins his final pilgrimage in the world.

While I am sad he is no longer pope, I am immensely happy for him. I actially smiled when I read the title of the thread. Here is a man who tried retiring two or three times before he was elected. I feel like God has finally said he can relax now. I am sure papacy is not easy. The weight off his shoulders must be tremendous.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I thought the Daily Mail was Britian’s equivalent to papers like The Star, etc. I’m suspicious of the “rich” informtaion. I just skimmed but they know how big his new bed is? Really?

Beautiful, beautiful photographs- particularly the photos of the Swiss Guard closing the doors of Castel Gandolfo. Very touching.

I very much doubt he has a favorite tv series!

But I am so glad to hear that he plans to play the piano again. I understood that to be a favorite activity that he had very little time for as pope.

As opposed to what? The loud, raucous party animal he was as Pope? 🤷

So from one of the videos, Pope Benedict talks about the Holy Spirits guidance in electing the new pontiff, then we see headlines that " Pope Benedicts says the Holy Spirit doesn’t necessarily pick Popes " which was twisted by the media as per usual…
