The article suggests that Benedict “could become a lightning rod for conservatives and polarize the church”

…what does that mean?

It seems the article is suggesting that Pope Francis is the liberal in comparison to Pope Benedict.

Just the MSM getting in a Catholic Bash with every opportunity. Note the nuanced language…“could” “might” “may” when the point is to infere some negative with respect to the Church.

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI never wanted to be Pope. He wanted to retire to his books and prayer but JPII wouldn’t let him go. He stated he would not be “forced out” by the filth and scandal that was working to destroy the Church and thus remained Pope for nearly eight years in spite of increasing age and infirmity.

I say bless this Holy man for his devoted service to the Church and for being our beloved Holy Father at great personal sacrifice.

Maybe it is my imagination, but it appears to me that since our Francis has been elected pope, that the news articles are written to drive a deeper wedge into existing “camps” within the Church. This one article is just another in a long line of them. Do you remember the frenzy they tried to keep Catholics in the first two weeks of Francis’ pontificate? :o

It would be true if +Benedict declared he was moving to Avignon, 😛 but he’s moving to a cloistered convent, which is hardly a launching pad for polarization
