Since this statement came out a couple of days after his phone call to the woman in Argentina, I sort of took this as his response to that.

In the OP it says “Father Federico said…” not Pope Francis.

The Orthodox churches teach that marriage is indissoluable, but they allow divorce and remarriage under certain circumstances. It doesnt really reassure me, yet. I’ll just wait and see what happens before worrying.

Father Lombardi said that the media coverage of the Argentinian woman cannot be confirmed as reliable and is “a source of misunderstanding and confusion.”

The statement on the indissolubility of marriage is directly from Francis, and was made to the Bishops of Southern Africa 4/25/14.

But you’re right that this doesn’t completely answer the question or completely reassure (for the reason you mentioned). Still though, I think it is the most encouraging statement so far, particularly given it’s timing.
