I just want to add this to make it clear: there is supposed to be some form of penitential act, with a few exceptions (e.g., there’s a baptism, asperges, etc.) Just recently I was at a Mass that omitted the whole kit and caboodle, with no explanation. I don’t see this often, but when I do, it’s at parishes that are more “creative” with the liturgy.
