Pope: Fatherhood Crisis Hurts Our Understanding of God

Pope Benedict XVI on Wednesday continued his series on prayer in the letters of Saint Paul. Speaking to tens of thousands of people gathered in St. Peter’s Square for the weekly general audience, the Holy Father expanded on the previous week’s catechesis on the Holy Spirit’s role in prayer.

Possibly, just possibly my own biological father was the one person who did the most harm to me being who he was and passing on his defective subhuman genes. A lineage of: depression (check), alcoholism (check), suicide and suicide attempts (check), anger (check), resentment (check), emotional instability (check), rage (check), bigotry and religious masquerade (check), incest (check), lack of human dignity and nobility (check), moral depravity (check). I’m trying to count my blessings, I think one hand will be more than enough. With God the Father’s blessings and protection, my father should continue to grace our lives and outlive us all. What a comforting thought that is.
