That’s another good question.Good question: But are we unique in our relationship to God, or in our lineage, or in the exact species we are now? If we evolve further does that mean our descendants are NOT human?

Ok, someone I know told me that Neanderthal an Denisovians were not human, so what does that say about us?It says their numbers put them outside the human range so that suggests to me that neanderthals werent human, right?
And if they werent human, how could they have rational souls?
And another question, if many of us have Neanderthal in us wouldn’t that suggest we’re not fully human?
AND we share a common ancestor with chimps. So how, pray tell can we be fully human and who received souls from God and who didnt?Great, now I found out about the “hobbits” I wonder where THEY fit in?
That, as they say, is the 10 million dollar question!AND we share a common ancestor with chimps. So how, pray tell can we be fully human and who received souls from God and who didnt?
I’d like to see what posters who don’t believe in evolution have to say about our neanderthal DNA, how they reconcile that fact with creationism and when, in their opinion, we received our rational souls.Ed?That, as they say, is the 10 million dollar question!
Furthermore, I’m part Croation, Polish and German, so I guess it’s likely I have Neanderthal DNA mixed in so how do I even be certain I have a soul?[BIBLEDRB][/BIBLEDRB]

VATICAN CITY (RNS) Pope Francis on Monday (Oct. 27) waded into the controversial debate over the origins of human life, saying the big bang theory did not contradict the role of a divine creator, but even required it.
The pope was addressing the plenary assembly of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, which gathered at the Vatican to discuss “Evolving Concepts of Nature.”
“When we read about Creation in Genesis, we run the risk of imagining God was a magician, with a magic wand able to do everything. But that is not so,” Francis said.

I agree. Butvwhere, where IYO did man come from?Genesis is bronze age scripture, a creation story to scientifically illiterate people.
Why would anyone expect astro physics and molecular biology to be in the lesson plan?
Scripture is for spiritual growth, not for Phd math and sciences.
What is your response to post# 931 and 932?It’s pretty clear:
"Real History
"The argument is that all of this is real history, it is simply ordered topically rather than chronologically, and the ancient audience of Genesis, it is argued, would have understood it as such.
"Even if Genesis 1 records God’s work in a topical fashion, it still records God’s work—things God really did.
"The Catechism explains that “Scripture presents the work of the Creator symbolically as a succession of six days of divine ‘work,’ concluded by the ‘rest’ of the seventh day” (CCC 337), but “nothing exists that does not owe its existence to God the Creator. The world began when God’s word drew it out of nothingness; all existent beings, all of nature, and all human history is rooted in this primordial event, the very genesis by which the world was constituted and time begun” (CCC 338).
"It is impossible to dismiss the events of Genesis 1 as a mere legend. They are accounts of real history, even if they are told in a style of historical writing that Westerners do not typically use.
"Adam and Eve: Real People
"It is equally impermissible to dismiss the story of Adam and Eve and the fall (Gen. 2–3) as a fiction. A question often raised in this context is whether the human race descended from an original pair of two human beings (a teaching known as monogenism) or a pool of early human couples (a teaching known as polygenism).
"In this regard, Pope Pius XII stated: “When, however, there is question of another conjectural opinion, namely polygenism, the children of the Church by no means enjoy such liberty. For the faithful cannot embrace that opinion which maintains either that after Adam there existed on this earth true men who did not take their origin through natural generation from him as from the first parents of all, or that Adam represents a certain number of first parents. Now, it is in no way apparent how such an opinion can be reconciled that which the sources of revealed truth and the documents of the teaching authority of the Church proposed with regard to original sin which proceeds from a sin actually committed by an individual Adam in which through generation is passed onto all and is in everyone as his own” (Humani Generis 37).
“The story of the creation and fall of man is a true one, even if not written entirely according to modern literary techniques. The Catechism states, “The account of the fall in Genesis 3 uses figurative language, but affirms a primeval event, a deed that took place at the beginning of the history of man. Revelation gives us the certainty of faith that the whole of human history is marked by the original fault freely committed by our first parents” (CCC 390).”
Ensoulment cannot be tested or shown to be true scientifically.

Then its a good thing nothing can keep us from Gods love.When somebody falls in love with a person the one thing that will kill that love is constantly asking or saying things like:
After a while questions about evolution and Adam and Eve start to come across as a very immature and insecure response to one’s lover.
- why do you love me?;
- prove you love me,
- when did you first fall in love with me?;
- I can’t believe you love me;
- give me evidence of your love,
- what is it you love about me?
- why do you love me and not someone else?
- do you love other people too?
- will you always love me?
How did God make us? However he wanted to.
The Bible, meaning Divine Revelation, tells us all about souls. Science cannot comment on souls since they cannot be studied in the laboratory. I view any confusion as coming from those who either don’t believe a soul exists in humans or those who think that pre-humans were alive and mating with modern humans, and with the idea that some had souls and some did not. That idea is a fantasy, and certainly cannot be shown to be true by science.What is your response to post# 931 and 932?

I am not sure that animals of all kinds don’t have something akin to the old idea of a ‘spirit’ that survives in a different, perhaps in Paradise for all eternity?The problem people seem to have is that “ensouled humans” have everlasting life, whereas “nonensouled humans” just disappear after dying. That looks like a black/white issue from our earthly perspective, if we want to explain that “scientifically”. I don’t think it’s that simple. We should leave that to God. There is another solution which is way beyond the reasoning capacity of our little brains.
Concerning moral awareness, chimpanzees and other higher mammals have that as well. It must come from having a bigger brain and therefore is a factor of our biological makeup.
Though it cannot be shown to be true by science does not mean it is fantasy, but only that it cannot be proved by science.The Bible, meaning Divine Revelation, tells us all about souls. Yes, I do. However, instead of producing sterile offspring, the fact this DNA is still with us is strong evidence that Neanderthals were simply another racial type of humans. We have Oriental people and Pygmies.Based on one of your previous posts, i thought you agree that we have Neanderthal DNA.
Who would that be?Though it cannot be shown to be true by science does not mean it is fantasy, but only that it cannot be proved by science.
MOST truths we live by day to day are not provable by science, but are accepted by the trustworthy rep of the source/authority.
Eve coming from Adams rib can’t be proven by science either…Though it cannot be shown to be true by science does not mean it is fantasy, but only that it cannot be proved by science.
