The introductory paragraph is quoting from the Vatican statement which is further down the article. Why all the quotation marks?

Personally, I thought Melania’s mantilla looked normal. It is what I wore as a kid when my mom let me use hers. I loved it.I feel a bit insulted personally with all the complaining about the veiling and clothing. My wife wears a black veil to Mass every week, she veiled when visiting a Marian shrine a couple weeks ago because she felt called to do it, and I am sure she would do the same for the Pope.
If someone wants to do it, awesome. They didn’t need to, but they did. I find it very reverent and respectful of them for doing it. I wouldn’t have thought differently if they didn’t, but I always feel if someone does, it is a sign of respect and should never be frowned upon.
Did you ever wonder how many people lost their healthcare on Obamacare?I just watched an entire segment on MSNBC about the meeting. MSNBC had a Catholic representative on and a Baptist. The Catholic lady said Catholics have a lot to be pleased about with the meeting. The Baptist agreed Francis and Trump share views on religious liberty. But he did mention Trumpcare hurts people considering the estimates of how many people will lose their healthcare.
Is there any reason why we should wonder about that?Did you ever wonder how many people lost their healthcare on Obamacare?
Yes, because costs went up so much that people dropped their plans. Also, many people lost their jobs due to the ACA requirements. Is there any reason why we should wonder about that?
Oh that is a medallion. I could not tell what it was. I like what he said to President Trump hoping he will be the olive branch to bring peace. I am sure President Trump will keep that in the Oval office as a reminder of what the Pope is hoping Trump canI really like this video clip from EWTN’s twitter account. It shows Pope Francis showing the medallion with translation:

I think Michelle Obama also wore a veil when she met with the Pope. I thought Melania’s veil looked a little funny too. Maybe it was because her hair was up.Not sure why Melania and Ivanka wore veils, it’s not required nor necessary.
From my view, it came across as they’re own stereotype of what was necessary in meeting the Pope.
Melania’s veil looked weird.
Many women have met Pope Francis and other Pope’s, but did not wear veils.
Jim
Thanks!I read that the Pope gave President Trump a copy of his writings (which I think is a traditional thing for Popes to give to world leaders, but I could be wrong), and the President gave him some of Rev. Martin Luther King’s speeches.
I don’t remember your questioning Michelle Obama.
So, Michelle Obama and Melania Trump both wore black dresses and veils to meet the Pope. That ends the discussion criticizing Melania now, doesn’t it?That hasn’t been a requirement for decades.
They’re to dress modestly, but not required to dress in black and cover their heads.
They’re not meeting the leader of the Taliban.
Jim
Vatican protocol states that for papal hearings, women should wear long sleeves, formal black clothing and a black veil to cover the head. Since the 1980’s, however, the dress code (tailcoat for men, black dress and veil for women) has become far less rigid.
Only in private hearings with the Pope are women required to cover their heads and wear mourning clothes. In hearings with the Holy Father, women are required to wear a dress with a sober cut and colour, which should preferably be black. At the end of the pontifical ceremony, the faithful are called to greet the Pope by kissing his hand. Women may wear a dress but itmust not be low cut, it must cover the shoulders and the skirt part should be below the knee.
I’m not sure why mourning clothes, but that’s what it says.Naturally flashy jewellery should be avoided: something discreet and elegant is fine, and if one has to choose, it is better to wear less than to overdo it. In general one should not exagerate with accessories and these should not have any loud colours. Above all, it is important to remember to keep the head covered at all times. The Pope should be addressed as “Your Holiness”.
The privilege of wearing a white dress during hearings with the Pope is only granted to Catholic queens or Catholic spouses of kings. They are allowed to wear a white dress instead of the usual prescribed black dress. Currently, this privilege extends only to Queen Sofia of Spain, Queen Paola of Belgium, Queen Fabiola of Belgium and the Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg, all from Catholic monarchies.
Just how many do you mean by “many?”Yes, because costs went up so much that people dropped their plans. Also, many people lost their jobs due to the ACA requirements.
Michelle looks a little uncomfortable as well.Well at first I was surprised to read that the Vatican still requests that women wear black and head covering when having a private meeting with the Pope.
Second thoughts on why they still keep this, probably has to do with how some women would dress if not told about the Vatican’s protocol.
Either way, Melania and Ivanka, looked a little unhappy by it.
Jim
Yeah, it seems like an outdated requirement.Michelle looks a little uncomfortable as well.

Why be critical of the First Lady wearing a veil? It appears this has been done for a very long time.
