I don’t know for sure either. I was told by a friend that she is the only one that refused to wear what was required. Will have to check on that.
 
I think the black dress and veil tradition is outdated and silly, but I don’t think there is any reason to pick at any of the ladies for trying to be polite by conforming. I am sure they were all a bit uncomfortable to be wearing something odd and different, while meeting the Pontiff, all while dozens of pictures are being taken. I would be.

By post 33 you got your Trump dig in already. What does a quote about Obamacare really have to do with the visit to the Pope if that isn’t something they actually discussed? Nothing. But that’s what you posted about.

I don’t know, but to me, forcing a woman to go out and purchase a black dress and veil, which she probably wouldn’t have in their wardrobe, seems a bit sexist.

What about a woman with far less financial means than Melania ?

Would she not be allowed to see the Pope privately ?

Why, has the Pope no interest in the healthcare in our country?

Sorry your doctor didn’t believe in the ACA.

As far as my doctor, as a matter of fact, he does not believe. Thanks for your sympathy.

Veils don’t cost much, I can imagine, and I think most of us have something black to wear to a funeral. It’s not that big of a deal to go thru to get to meet the Pope.
