Pope Francis and the Atheist Father

You could tell the lad with all honesty that he [the boy’s father] is in the merciful hands of a God who loves us.

The video is very short and I recommend that you watch it. It will enable you to see the situation properly.

God Bless.

You have claimed one thing, prove it. Tell me what exactly Holy Father Pope Francis said.
If you cannot do that, then retract this thread as it is based on gossip

I just watched it. It’s fine. The Pope essentially said there is good cause for hope for his dad. Not sure what could be scandalous about it?

Child: My father died a short time ago. He was atheist, but he baptised his four children. He was a good man. Is dad in heaven?
Holy Father: It is nice that a son says his father is good. Do you think that God would be able to leave a man like that far from him? Do you think that? No! Does God abandon his children? No! Does God abandon his children when they are good? No! Here is the answer. God was surely proud of your father because it is easier to baptise your children as a believer than as an unbeliever. Surely God liked this so much. Talk to your dad, pray to your dad.

Where does Holy Father say
He essentially told a young (Catholic) child that his atheist father was in heaven.

The Holy Father told the boy to pray to his father. He didn’t say directly that his father was in heaven. He certainly said it in his words.
ok, so we have established that Holy Father never said to this boy his father was in heaven.
Thankyou

Pope Francis was NOT lying.

I never said he was lying. I am NOT criticising the Holy Father. I simply want someone to explain how this is within Church doctrine.

I am not trying to stir things up. God bless you. GiftofMercy.

The child said he was a good man, so Pope Francis spoke of “good men” in general. At no point did he say that the father was in heaven. He tried to comfort the boy by going along with the statement that the father was a good man. In his situation, I don’t see at all how that was wrong of him to do.

In my view, telling a child that their father is in hell is abuse, something we know the Pope is resolutely against in all its forms.

Here is what I believe Pope Francis did. Comforted this boy, told this boy, despite his father being an atheist, he did a good thing and baptised his children. Pope Francis told him that his father was a good man. And that baptising the children is much easier a decision for a believer then for a non believer.
Pope Francis comforted this distraught child and told him to pray to his father and that God does not abandon his children when they are good. And that God would be so proud of his father for baptising this little boy.

Where is there any wrong or anything against Catholic doctrine in here? I can see none. We are allowed to pray to our dead relatives for their intercession and help. We have no idea where their souls are right now unless they are canonised.

Imagine a father going against his beliefs and baptising a child. This is a great example and role model in today’s world.

I thank you for your insistence in going to the sources. I must say we all need to be mindful of fact checking.
