Pope Francis Calls for Protection of Unaccompanied Child Migrants

Good old common sense. I notice that he thinks people should be discouraged from migrating and instead fix (with assistance) the conditions in their own countries. That seems like a far smarter idea than the US trying to absort an endless stream of people.

We could have all of those armed militia people looking for something to do go on ahead and clean up those Central American countries so that its safe to return all those kids. Kill two birds with one stone.

I don’t think there is even a noticeable increase in crime in those Central American countries. That is something that should be investigated but they had one graph of TV and it wasn’t higher now.

I think they are just exploiting a loophole.

How do we know too, a person who claims to be from Honduras for example is from Honduras?

I think so too. It is horrible that these kids are encouraged’manipulated to leave their homes and risk their lives. The politicians and people supporting this migration are not doing these kids any favors.

Absolutely! After all, why should Mexico be just given a pass for those poor refugees. The US has granted over 23 million green cards from 1990 to 2012 and has accepted 546,000 refugees from 2003 through 2012, and over 3,000,000 non-immigrant worker visas (e.g., H1Bs, etc.) in 2012 alone!..so I know you are not implying that the US has not done our part to help folks out from less well-to-do countries.

Using your analogy, it sure would be nice if the Samaritan didn’t automatically assume that the Jew would tend to the person and would actually step up to the plate a bit.

It seems Hondurus is our of sight at over 80 while even Israel is less than 12 per 100,000

OK, we should take Pope Francis’ words to heart, I agree with that.

Seeing how making the 1300 mile trek through Mexico is one fraught with danger and these migrant children are often riding on tops of trains, come across the human traffickers in the desert and are vulnerable to crime, likely some have died on the way maybe the US should consider sending full-greyhound-types of buses to the 3 countries of Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador agreeing to carry children to the North.

The only real solution, potentially at least, to this is a Christian solution but the USA in ways has veered away from God. If our leaders in Washington said from now on, on all social issues, it be the inner cities or migrants, We are going to adhere to what the Holy Father says or what the Bible says or what Christian Charity says, it might be worth trying.

You are suggesting that I am a hypocrite because I do not personally take in immigrants? Just like everyone active in the prolife movement who does not turn their homes into shelters for pregnant women with no support are also hypocrites? This attitude reflects the “rugged individual” and “go-it-alone” attitude which leads to apathy, fear and the isolationism which plagues our nation. We have strength in numbers, when we pool our resources and work together. There are shelters, churches and border patrol detention centers already established and ready to help these people, and I support them through my donations and tax dollars. The least we can do to follow Pope Francis’ message is to get out of the way of the people and organizations who are ready and willing to help.

The right-wing has already begun its fuming and bubbling about a foreign conspiracy with the President. (Glenn Beck being an exception, the man showed himself to be extremely generous in taking food and toys down)

The best way we can help these children would be to put them on a plane to Rome where I am sure they will be treated well.

Actually,…my recollection of the corporal works of mercy mandate individual action. “Feed the hungry” “house the homeless” and so on. Matthew 25 also was a call for individual action.

Far too often, left wingers call on great mercy, as long as it doesn’t personally impact their lives. Yes, with somebody else’s resources and in somebody else’s town.

Seriously, with the political folks who are calling for this, are these aliens going to be housed in Chevy Chase, Georgetown, McLean, Bethesda or Great Falls? (the luxurious areas where our masters live)

Like the Governor O’Malley example I gave above. He called for all to be accepted, just not in Maryland (his state)

I read the original post and Mark is right, * paraphrasing at least *, the Pope also calls for Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador and Mexico to engage in charitable. Well, the poor children go on their, I’ll just say 1,300 mile trek from Central America. Really, is their much charity between here and there?? Certainly, there are some Catholic outreaches on the way, at least on the Border, I read about one place. Still, the overall environment must be horrible.

Believe it or not, I once road on a regular train in Northern Mexico some years ago. That was a legal train and that thing was packed, a bit like how we might picture Livestock to be packed or packed like the proverbial sardines in a can. Good experience probably but still.

He would do far better to call for the US and Mexico to enforce their borders and for the parents to stop sending their children on this long, dangerous journey. This latest illegal immigration crisis is absolutely over the top. Border Patrol and ICE are extremely close to running out of funds because of having to deal with the flood of unaccompanied minors. (See “Border Patrol, Ice Running Out of Money amid Border Crisis”) Not to mention, the Border Patrol is now having to concentrate most of its energies on this situation rather than on all the other illegal immigration and drug smuggling on the border.

Is our nation crazy that we are afraid to enforce our southern border? This situation is beyond ridiculous. I feel like the Pope is making statements on circumstances that he really knows nothing about.

LUBBOCK, Texas—An illegal immigrant who was released by U.S. authorities with a Notice to Appear has been arrested for the alleged murder of a woman and kidnapping of children on U.S. soil. The alleged crimes occurred after the man was released.

It’s certainly not the first story like this nor will it be the last.

One can look at the story likewise and say, well Pope Francis was talking about the children and a lot of people make the point we need to be compassionate to the children. But the reality of the situation is we are talking about the migrants in general and as a whole.

He was only apprehended in June, perhaps even at the end of June.

The “MCS” designates the McAllen station, the “1406” designates that the man was apprehended in June of 2014. A separate Border Patrol source confirmed that the man was apprehended on June 26, 2014 with two children he claimed were his own. He told U.S. authorities he had family in Metairie, Louisiana.

And note this, he was able to claim two children as his own and that he had family in the US. So if they have a story, they may be able to go on their way.
