Reading the snarls comments on the first page of this thread in response to posters who simply asked what it was about leads me to think some people must not have gotten the message.

I am from Australia and live most of the year travelling around Asia. I am not interested in hearing what the pontiff is saying on either global warming or illegal migrants/refugees as I think it is a naive eagerness to join the politically correct bandwagon and as a Catholic such wrong political posturing is dangerous and frankly embarrassing.

I will listen to him on other matters though.

So you just kind of pick and choose when to pay attention to the Pope and when not to.

I see a problem with this.

I thought the same thing. Some one asked a simple question, and was rebuffed is responses about the “Love of Humanity.” Ironic.

His comments were ostensibly aimed at using technological development to help each other, rather than just help ourselves, so I guess it was “T”.

But that’s just the problem, the lack of definitions, since IVF has come about through technological advances, and so has abortion, some people would define those things gravely contrary to the moral law as ‘good’ and ‘helpful’.

I haven’t watched it, but from what I have read, I didn’t feel too comfortable because of the vagueness in it all and how I think it could be easily taken many different ways. But I must admit there were some good parts of it. I’ll just keep praying for our Holy Father.

Well if Kermit the Frog thought it is hard to be green, then all the harder for us to be good.

Reminds me of an assistant pastor we had at our previous parish. He had been married, then widowed, and then became a priest. All he would talk about in his homilies is how we should be loving to our spouses and family members.

And I was thinking, we all know that and yet we’re still mean and nasty to them. Tell us something new.

The talk doesn’t mention anything about global warming, the environment, or creation protection. But is does focus on the parable of the Good Samaritan and that everyone is our neighbor and we need to value others.

If we were to do that, then, of course, we would be mitigating global warming and protecting the air, water, food, and climate so as to protect others from harm. That’s a given among the many other things we should and could be doing to value, help, and protect others (like working against abortion).

As a poster put it, it is a homily for all, not just for Catholics or not just for Christians, but it is at the very heart of Christianity. Without that stance, Christianity is quite meaningless and dead.

This we can agree on! The Golden Rule is Gold for a reason We must Love God above all and Love each other as our selves and there will be no need to worry whether or not Climate Science is pure conjecture or that all these scientist are on the take because everyoone owuld be looking out for eveyones best interest!

Hmm interesting. I wonder what you pick in choose from the actual teachings of the Church.

As a Catholic I’m obligated to believe everything the CHURCH treaches. I do! WIth all my heart and mind.

I agree with Pope Francis that we need to look after the earth but more importantly it;s inhabitants and more importantly the spiritual health of the worlds inhabitants.

I do not agree with the Popes personal opinion on Scientific realities of the world around us. Nor am I obligated too!

Tell me do you agree with everything Pope John Paul II & Pope Emeritus wrote about?

I believe I have read all of the formal writings of the last few Popes, and lots of the informal stuff, and no I do not agree with all of it. But its really kind of silly to refuse to listen to something, characterize it negatively and reject it out of hand. Catholics aren’t obliged to read everything, but the Pope deserves more respect than to dismiss him in that manner.

I agree with you on that! The pope deserves our utmost respect and I LOVE this pope very much.

I have issue with some of what he wrote on the Climate but agree with the morals of looking after the earth and environment in general.

I think much of the dismissal of what the pope says has to do with the vagueness of his comments and confusion he instills in many people with what he says.

I would add that I believe the pope is incorrect in some of his ideas on how we can best help our fellow man in a just and lasting way which does not lead to more harm and injustice.

Yes, I agree with everything JPII and Benedict wrote and said.

I follow the Church and the words of the Popes as I consider my will and mind subject to their insights. I learn from them- I don’d pick and choose what to listen to and what not to.
