“because going to confession is not like going to the dry cleaners to get a stain removed. No!”

Every time I read one of the transcripts something always makes me laugh out loud. He is such a visual communicator that his analogies are perfect but funny. 😃

Yes, the problem is not God, the problem is our despair, more than our weakness. The prodigal son was weak, but he didn’t despair that the Father would open his arms, if he regretted.

But when he came to himself he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired hands have bread enough and to spare, but here I am dying of hunger! 18 I will get up and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me like one of your hired hands.”’ 20 So he set off and went to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion;…

And

1 Then Peter came and said to him, “Lord, if another member of the church[g] sins against me, how often should I forgive? As many as seven times?” 22 Jesus said to him, “Not seven times, but, I tell you, seventy-seven[h] times.

Even a statement like this can be mis-interpreted. The Father always has is arms open to us. If we regret, we can be open to returning to Him. That is the point.

The Father always has his arms open to us. It is our despair which makes us think he won’t. 🙂

"That’s how God forgives us: always. But if you have lived a life full of so many sins, so many bad things, but in the end, a bit repentant, you ask for forgiveness, He will immediately pardon you. He always pardons us!"

This is especially important for all of us who struggle with habitual sins to remember. Too often we can get discouraged. These words from Pope Francis are pure hope and encouragement. I wonder what it was like for those who were blessed to have Fr. Jorge Bergoglio, now Pope Francis, as their confessor?
