Pope Francis: I am suspicious of ongoing Medjugorje apparitions [CNA]

The alarming fact that those who supposedly were the recipients of Our Mother’s messages are so blatant at self-promotion has turned me off to this apparition from the beginning. Lourdes is a different story as is Fatima and the others that are confirmed “real” by the Church vetting for miracles and visitations. I never, in a thousand years, thought that Papa Francis would approve Mediugorje because of the money grubbing that is occurring surrounding it.🤷

Thank goodness he has the strength and confidence to say this out loud to the faithful! I’ve been concerned about Medjugorje for a long, long time.

I am assuming the official investigation is ongoing? I’ve always doubted the Medjugorje apparitions and I always found it a little odd that I have seen diocesan sanctioned pilgrimages to the site even though the phenomenon has not been approved by the Vatican.

Are we allowed to talk about this on here?

Also, I thought this was investigated and it was determined the signs were not consistent with the Blessed Mother.

We are allowed to talk about THIS, not allowed to talk about the messages or about Medjugorje as if it is an accepted apparition.

I am glad Pope Francis has said this, but I wish it had been another Pope saying it, because many of these people who believe in Medjugorje mistrust this pope, already.

" this is not Jesus’ mother"

Even if taken out of contex. That phrase sends chills down my spine…

Well, while we might be itching to talk about it, we can’t.

Therefore, to do with the article:

…Anyhoo, it is a bit late for looking back at when they were kids. Investigations are done at the time so he might have said that they were more innocent as children than when people have grown up and can’t move on, but I don’t think his comments go beyond that. He has said that they don’t seem to be of the “true Madonna”. That is enough for me.

I think the “Bishop in White” refers to the Prayer said at Fatima recently. And this refers to the vision which mentions the ‘Bishop in White’.

Basically, the Pope is also known as the ‘Pontiff’, and also the ‘Bishop of Rome’. The Bishop of Rome dresses in white to represent purity and innocence (I think). And this is linked with the Blessed Virgin, because Mary is Perpetual Virgin. Maybe this too, is why Our Lady, for the most part, appears to children: because they are innocent of heart. Even in the case of Guadeloupe, Our Lady called St. Don Juan “my dear little son.” The case of reference points to the innocent/pure heart as one that can discern God, which refers back to Scripture: when Jesus said in Matthew 19:14 “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”. This is the ideal - that souls grow in purity, to be like those of trusting little children, and so the link is there, between God, the Virgin Mary, the Pope (with whom the Virgin Mary is always with in a unique way) and the little children, and too, anyone who strives for saintly perfection.

That’s my: :twocents:
Thanks. I did some googling on it too. Quite scary the amount of conspiracy type websites out there on ’ the Bishop in White’. Guess if its about the current pope and the retired pope, won’t be too long before we find out.

Chilling, indeed. If something manifestly deceptive did appear, then by the lie itself it defiles Our Lady. That is pure evil.

Most of the people I know personally, who have gone there, are better Christians than I am. But I suspect they were, even before they went.

The part I bolded, if true, worries me a lot. If it is true, it would be a strong “fruit”, or sign, that this is not a valid private revelation.

While I am always interested and hopeful of apparitions I also appreciate the pope’s candour in giving his flock his considered opinion even if it is in the negative.

He is probably correct but if it turns out otherwise I would still have respect for the pope to have communicated his honest thoughts as he has done.
