I will hopefully still be here Dec 2020 whatever happens. I don’t believe the world will end any time soon.
 
Already? I must have been in a time warp or something, I thought he was in his 70’s.

Who are these “many” people and why should we believe their supposed-“prophesies“?
 
I’d tend to not believe all of these claims. Their authenticity and comatibility with Catholic doctrine cannot be verified. We do however know, from Sceipture, Tradition, and the Magesterium that Jesus will never leave His Church. Vatican i taught definitively that St. Peter will have successors in perpetuity.

And I read tons of articles way back when John Paul II was pope saying he would be the last one… Everyone that made predictions like that have been wrong so far… it’s probably the case again…

The Malachy prophecy is, with near certainty, a hoax.

For those unaware, supposedly St. Malachy (12th century) made a prophecy that there would only be 112 popes until the end of the world, and gave details on all of them. Here’s the problem. The first record we have of this prophecy comes from the late 16th century, 400 years later.

Now, ordinarily that wouldn’t necessarily disqualify it. There are plenty of documents that have been lost over time. But there’s something that seems to put to rest any question. Look at its descriptions of popes prior to its publication/reveal in the late 16th century. They all line up very nicely with the popes in question, no issues. Then look at the descriptions of the popes afterwards. You’ll notice it requires much, much more stretching to try to find a connection to the pope in question.

Why? The answer seems quite obvious: It was made up wholesale in the late 16th century. This allows the “prophecy” of the preceding popes to be accurate (because, you know, they had already served) but prevents the later descriptions from being accurate as they’re just complete guesses.

It’s certainly possible Francis is the last pope (in the same way it’s possible the next pope will be the last pope, or the pope after him will be the last pope, etc.), but if he is, it has nothing to do with the alleged prophecy of Malachy.

I think you need to be more prudent in your choice of reading materials.
We have no idea how many Popes there will be, only God knows that.
Don’t waste your time on these websites that claim to be able to prophesy the future.
 
Yes, this is the “Prophecy of the Popes” that is either a hoax or, at best, an unapproved private revelation.

We are not permitted to discuss unapproved private revelations on this forum. In the past we have had some posters who always wanted to discuss the Prophecy of the Popes and such posts were usually removed by the moderators for violating the TOS.

Again my advice is to just avoid such junk.
 
Well, the end has to come some time. If it spurs you to more frequent confession and more consistent practice of virtue, it could be a good thing. For me it was learning more about world power structures and what we’re really dealing with that brought me to the Church and got me taking prayer seriously, coming out of a secular view of life.
 
People have been believing this for centuries, from the very beginning of the Church.

Before conversion, I was part of a heavy Dispensationalist group, I could tell you the way the beasts of Revelation related to modern governments, draw all of the charts, etc.

It is a big book, but, really does put things in perspective.

As with some things - of course it’s possible.

And yes, only God Knows…

The BIG EVENT following any last pope is the Prophecied Return of Jesus

Followed by Judgement Day…

Pope Francis is not the last Pope, and if he is…well…i had to be wrong about something eventually. 🙂
