Pope Francis Names 800 New Saints In One Go

OK, I am woefully ignorant of the history of these new saints, or how this process works. Were these new saints already declared blessed and then beatified or can the Pope just cut to the chase and declare someone a saint without those other steps? What about the miracles that need to be verfied? That would be an awful lot of miracles!

Because they were martyred for the Faith, I believe it is a different process.
