Vatican City, Oct 6, 2018 / 08:09 am ([CNA](https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/)).- The Vatican announced Saturday that it would review its files pertaining to allegations of sexual misconduct on the part of Archbishop Theodore McCarrick, who has been accused in recent months of serially sexually abusing two teenage boys, and of sexually coercing and assaulting priests and seminarians during decades of ministry as a bishop.
The Archdiocese of New York has already conducted a formal investigation into one allegation that McCarrick serially sexually abused a teenage boy in New York, and announced in June that the allegation had been found credible.

In an Oct. 6 statement, the Vatican said that Pope Francis has decided to combine the information from that investigation “with a further thorough study of the entire documentation present in the Archives of the Dicasteries and Offices of the Holy See regarding the former Cardinal McCarrick, in order to ascertain all the relevant facts, to place them in their historical context and to evaluate them objectively.”

I’m glad the Pope is ordering this investigation.

Now here come the posts poo pooing the investigation or casting aspersions on the Holy Father.

Not going to “poo poo” it at all. According to Whispers in the Loggia, he had vetoed the idea of an apostolic visitation when the he met with the American bishops last month. This is a good first step. I am rather surprised there has not been an internal review of all of the documents going on the last couple of months. But am happy there is a step forward.

Youre right. Too many people are righteously angry at church leaders. The church leaders have been covering this up for decades. Now states are forcing American churches to turn over all document. There is a group that is hiring investigators to investigate each and every cardinal.

Church leaders have two options. Either work side by side to uncover the crimes or it will be forced in a court of law to do so.

The Church has always had to weight the issue of justice to all with the prudence of working with the secular government, whether if be with China, or the Western nations. Now we in the West have or bias about the moral certitude of our quasi-democratic systems, but there are plenty of flaw in every legal system. Just this week we have seen in Congress how accusations can be handled, or mishandled. Also, we are not all that far removed historically from lynching, bigotry, and persecution. There is good reason for caution in dealing with a secular state so hostile to religion, both in China, and the United States.

Pope Francis is review ordering a review first in order to make an informed decision of how justice is best served.

It’s important for some to develop and maintain not a frustration with institutional problems in the church, but with a specific animus towards the Holy Father

Well we now know that Vigano spoke truthfully about the sanctions/restrictions on McCarrick. Should know quite a bit more soon! Vigano went about this poorly from the start, but thank God that he did do something!

You are welcome to think what ever you want to think. Church leaders allowed men to molested Hundreds and hundreds of little boys and a few little girls. The church leaders knew about it and covered it up. This isnt an accusation these are know facts. Here in the US Pope Francis get no say so in how justice will be served once the courts get involved. That will be up to juries.

If youre trying to compare the Ford accusations to the priest molestation scandal there is no comparison. Ford had no proof were as the accusations against many priest have been verified.

I haven’t seen any report of evidence yet. The news article only announce a review of documents, which has even begun yet. How can anyone here know what they reveal at this time?

Again, begging the question, and confusing evidence with proof. I am making the comparison. The biggest difference is who is picking which side, that an the fact the Church will move more carefully, not moving on after one week. Partisanship drives hypocrisy.

You kept trolling me and I request you to please stop. Ouellet himself acknowledged that “McCarrick had been strongly exhorted not to travel or appear in public, and to live a discreet life of prayer given rumors against him”. Whom was Vigano to think that exhortation came from? Vigano got the info from Ouellet and passed it along to McCarrick. Way more of the info from Vigano has been corroborated than refuted. You believe what you want and I will do the same.

I’m glad the Pope is ordering this investigation.
I’m glad he has ordered the investigation also. This is what people have been requesting.

I don’t think there will be too much “poo pooing” of the investigation, since again this is what people have been requesting.

It is true many people are very frustrated and angry with Church leaders. There are some pretty horrible things going on and we want our Church cleansed and respect for it’s holiness restored. We also need good shepherds to lead us in the salvation of our souls.

one week, this has been known for 40 years. I want the police involved. I want the courts involved. I want those records to be entered as evidence in a court of law.

Get the out and over with. The church will be stronger in the long run.
