Pope Francis has said he has accepted that he may be assassinated- but has asked God to make sure it doesn’t hurt too much as he is ‘a real wimp’.

Francis said that if fanatics want to kill him, it is ‘God’s will’.

He said: ‘Life is in God’s hands. I have said to the Lord, “You take care of me. But if it is your will that I die or something happens to me, I ask you only one favour: that it doesn’t hurt. Because I am a real wimp when it comes to physical pain.”’
 
I’m a wimp too when it comes to pain. I pray for the same thing.

Lol! I wish I could die as a martyr too, but I also blanch at the thought of a lot of pain. St. Lawrence’s death? Forget it. However, I don’t think a martyr’s death is likely for a suburban mom in Ohio anyway.

I understand he accepts it, if it’s God’s will, but it would be hard for some of us to. 😦

I’m sure the Spaniards thought likewise, up until the Moors came across the Hercules…

Take heart though, not all Martyrs suffer physically to a hideous extent, as Saint Thomas More said, “Strike not awry, my neck is very short.”

Me, I am not disciplined enough for a Saint or brave enough to be a Martyr, so I will just have to do Purgatory.

Many times when terrorists strike it is without warning. It probably comes so fast you don’t realize what happened. If they take on prisoners that is another matter.
 
I pray that he will not be assassinated and I accept God’s Will if it is asked. I pray also that, if it happens, that he will be spared from unnecessary pain. :highprayer::signofcross::gopray::heaven:
 
I’m afraid that most of us living in the western world today have become wimps. If one reads even a little first hand history, things were not so easy for so many in most epochs. My fear is that when push comes to shove, we will be pushovers. I think our enemies are counting on it.
 
Pope Francis knows the dangers in today’s world. I pray his Guardian Angel will protect him.

I agree 100%, we here in the US, have lead such sheltered lives, we almost expect things to be easy and without pain, but in reality the rest of the world expects nothing but bad things and pain. It would not take much to knock us down a notch or two.

Most people are so involved in their own lives, work, etc. they dont even bother to recognize what it means to be a US citizen, we have duties we MUST abide by that were given to us by our founding fathers, we have yet to fight for these, even though the conditions are there in which we should…But Im no different either, I fear loosing my job, getting thrown in jail, etc. but I know deep in my heart, I am throwing off my duties too, so its a bit shameful, but in the world we live in today, a person cannot be a patriot, if they tried, they would be labelled a domestic terrorist, worst part, most people would actually side with the Govt over their fellow citizen!!

That would definitely happen if we relied on our own strength. However, as Catholics, we rely on God’s grace. It is He who gave strength to the martyrs to face their ordeal. He will do the same for us, if need be.
