Agreed. There could be a number of reasons he looked more serious at the beginning. As you say, they are smiling later, and that is important.
With respect for the Pope I doubt anyone walks up to him grinning until after being introduced formally. Why do some like to make “mountains out of molehills.” Get a life!! God Bless, Memaw

Thank you. I am ashamed to say I don’t even know when they became countries!

I really doubt it with Obama’s strong stand for Abortion. God Bless, Memaw
The Pope actually did seem to enjoy the company of Obama a lot during his visit to DC. And while I am sure he disagreed with Obama on the abortion issue, the Pope actually does care about a variety of other issues, the poor, healthcare, the environment and climate change, immigration, the death penalty, excess profiteering, the growing economic gap between the rich and everyone else, a better distribution of wealth, and does not limit himself to one issue and has even asked the faithful to spend less time talking about abortion and SSM and contraception…

“We cannot insist only on issues related to abortion, gay marriage and the use of contraceptive methods. This is not possible. I have not spoken much about these things, and I was reprimanded for that. But when we speak about these issues, we have to talk about them in a context. The teaching of the church, for that matter, is clear and I am a son of the church, but it is not necessary to talk about these issues all the time."

“We have to find a new balance; otherwise even the moral edifice of the church is likely to fall like a house of cards, losing the freshness and fragrance of the Gospel. The proposal of the Gospel must be more simple, profound, radiant.”

Pope Francis deplores “an economy of exclusion and inequality,” noting that “such an economy kills.” How can it be news, he asked, that the stock market loses two points but not that an old man dies from the cold?

“Let us seek to build a society and economy where the good of human beings, rather than money, is at the center,” the pope says.

:ehh:

I think killing for convenience kind of tops the list.

Reports from 3rd May 2017:

Pope Francis praises pro-life cause: “There is no more important work”.

(Unfortunately, the main site referencing PF saying this is LFNews, which seems to be anti-Pope, a lot of the time, but still, this is what Pope Francis said).

I think you missed the point. As I even quoted, the pontiff said the teachings of the Catholic church are clear and he is a son of the Catholic church. But a poster referenced one issue as reason to doubt that Francis had a warmer relationship with Obama. It is not the only issue Francis talks about nor wants Catholics to talk about. He may agree with Trump on abortion. Although the last I knew, Trump was okay if some states offered abortion and women travelled to them for the procedure. And he likely connected with Obama in other ways.

I think it’s kind of pointless to compare which president had the “warmer” relationship with Pope Francis based on our limited information about a couple of extremely brief meetings. 🤷

I’m happy whenever a president meets with the pope. My prayer is always that they take to heart whatever the pope tells them and that it bear fruit in the way they lead the country.

I just watched the EWTN showing of President Trump’s visit to Pope Francis and they both had big smiles at times. The Pope was very warm and friendly as was our President and family. Protocol is the same for all visiting the Pope. The ladies respected the protocol of wearing black and a scarf on their head. How anyone, media included, could find fault or criticize the President and family is way beyond me! The narrator of the whole thing did a wonderful job of explaining it all. Thanks again EWTN for the great coverage of it. God Bless, Memaw

Hi. Pope Francis gave Obama a copy of Laudato Si in which Pope Francis had used reason to explain why abortion is wrong in a way that environmentalists might understand.

All I have seen from Trump so far is him making headway in making sure that Planned Parenthood don’t get any further with their evil plans and diabolic acts.

I wish we had a chance to get to know Melania better. She is a beautiful woman and
smart. I am not sure if she is afraid of the media or hurt by them. I feel sorry for
her. I would like to know more about her life in her native country.
I hope we do in the years her hubby is the office. She seems a great mum, a good role model. Keeping a degree of privacy in her life at home, with her son at school.

The media seem focussed on pulling her apart and comparing her to Jackie O.

The warmth Pope Francis has shown her, and their connection is some of the first happy and accepted Melania I have seen in the media.

A photo, although a moment in time, says a thousand words, and public figures are apt at conveying attitudes and opinions in press calls.

There is a science around it. What is worn, body posture, facial expressions, backdrop.
Marketing is expert at it. Trump and his team will have been briefed extensively on clothing. That black dress with big gold belt Melania wore off the plane in Saudi, for instance.

I also see Melania’s non Head covering at the Western Wall vs her Mantilla at the Vatican to be a huge statement. Its surprising that the media and CAF hasn’t picked up on that.

Which is why I firmly believe the stern face on Pope Francis, with Trump , and its deliberate report in the media was very deliberate.
And Trump didn’t dare try his infamous handshake!

Hopefully there was a good outcome to whatever was discussed and Trump converts!

🙏👌

Hi, yes and Laudato Si had a lot of other things in it.

The trip or his problems at home or a combination.
I would say it’s a taxing trip for anyone, jet lag plus travel plus always being on point and happy for the press. Poor guy wouldn’t even be able to let his guard down for a minute in public. Imagine the photo op if he scratched his bum unconsciously.

In some photos he looks to be struggling a bit. Its early days. I bet his team will address the issue and give him tools to deal with his office, physically.

They say being a leader ages a person so fast. Brown hair to grey hair at record speed.

Australias pollies are always out walking or running around Canberra. Get that energy up and kick those endorphins in. I say it’s the same the globe over.

So the Pope agreed and disagreed with Obama and on some things might or might not have done so with Trump. And even though it is reported that Pope Francis agreed with Obama on matters to do with looking after the environment, Pope Francis has identified abortion as being top of the list of concerns, and this includes topping environmental issues. And if Trump supports Pro Life, and Obama doesn’t, then that makes Trump a more likely candidate to be in a favour with the Vatican. However, we don’t know that much about what was said to either of the politicians; all we do know, is that right now, abortion is a growing awareness in the conscience of the world-at-large, as being outright wrong, and the Pope has made this known.

I thought he looked tired at one press conference with a foreign leader (I forget who) recently before he departed the states, but yes I agree trips are taxing. It certainly does seem leaders have aged and grey at record speeds. One only needs to look at former President Obama as an example.

You said. "How anyone, media included, could find fault or criticize the President and family is way beyond me! "

Memaw
If you read my comments , or this post, as finding fault with your President and family,
You would be very wrong.

Quite frankly, it’s uncharitable and a little insulting too.

I pray my comments and posts are better understood by people. We all speak English, but, due to our cultures, we are very different. Try understanding an Aussie!

We look the same, speak the same language ( accented of course) but that does not excuse us attempting to understand each other.
