If you can find where I said the poor are lazy, I will shave my head and join the Fanciscans. Otherwise, I hope that you will issue a public apology for that slander.

I have said that sloth is a problem and that there is widespread waste of God’s gifts but nowhere did I limit that criticism to the poor.

I’m glad that you and the pope have befriended so many real people. I’m sure everyone here is just so jealous because all we have are fake friends.

We are all “at the mercy” of those around us. We are also all blessed by the abundance around us. Some see the glass as half empty, others as half full. I’m guessing you are of the first sort.

Waste is bad and unfair to the poor: FACT. Not surprising that in a culture where some see greed as ‘good’, the Pope would find opposition to such a basic truth. I thank God that we have a Pope who is exactly right for the mentality and spirit of the times.

I had expected a loftier debate than the tired old “the poor are lazy” argument, but that’s life.

I think it’s not just a question of throwing away some food on a plate, but the larger issue of a small fraction of the world’s people having the ability to dispose of a disproportionate amount of resources as compared to the rest of the world.

What I learned in Catholic school was not to misrepresent what others say. You’ve done that both with me and with the pope. I doubt you learned that in Catholic school.

Misrepresent? That’s a rather strong term for having an opinion, but whatever takes your fancy. The point of the discussion is to learn how the Pope’s statement APPLIES to our lives, not to have personal spats over whatever.
