Yes, Pope Francis is ‘annoyed’, but because he fell into the young man in the wheelchair in front of him and then kissed his head.

The usual reporting…

edition.cnn.com/2016/02/17/world/pope-francis-mexico-stumble/index.html

*Francis regained his balance with the help of a security guard. But his normally smiling face morphed into a look of anger *as he apparently yelled at the person in the crowd.
I’m not surprised by his anger at such a lack of respect.

If this wasn’t about the Pope there’s no way this would be considered news. Of course the man was angry; someone literally pulled him into a man in a wheelchair. Who wouldn’t get ticked off?

Stop the presses! Human servant of God who believes all humans including himself have sinned is slightly irritated when pushed into person in wheelchair! *Clearly *he is of the devil…

I find this more telling about the media than the Pope, honestly… 😃

Indeed! It’s bad enough to be yanked off balance, but for it to result in you falling into someone in a wheelchair? No wonder Pope Francis kissed his head. It was probably his way to apologize for falling on him.

On the bright side, the guy in the wheelchair has a great story. :o Not only did he meet the pope and shake his hand, but the pope fell on top of him. 😛

😃 I like the way you put it. 🙂

I agree, the Pope reacted in a difficult situation but I wouldn’t call it anger. He was very concerned about the young man he fell on. God Bless, Memaw

Poor Pope- he was feeling more nervous than usual, being among the poorest of the poor in Mexico. They will launch themselves at any sign of hope for their lives. There’s a very thin line between an act of selfishness and an act of faith!

Yes it does.
It was headline news on today’s major UK ITN channel, with no comment about whether the Pope’s anger was justified, and it is the first and only report that has mentioned the Pope’s visit to Mexico.

http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/i...ct_17_2014_Credit_Daniel_Ibanez_CNA.jpgMexico City, Mexico, Feb 17, 2016 / 01:12 pm (CNA).- A visibly upset Pope Francis had some tough words for a rowdy crowd when their shoving caused him to fall on a disabled boy during an event in Mexico.

Following an encounter with young people in the city of Morelia, Pope Francis took time to greet those in the crowd, distributing rosaries as he went.

At one point, the jostling of the crowd trying to grab a rosary from the pontiff was so severe that the Pope lost his balance, falling forward on a boy in a wheelchair.

“What’s going on with you? Don’t be selfish! Don’t be selfish!” Francis said forcefully as he got back up.

Father Federico Lombardi, director of the Vatican Press Office, later told the media that the Pope’s response was natural, given the circumstances.

“It’s a very human reaction, very normal… anyone in a similar situation would have reacted that way, especially after a long day of activities,” he said.

The spokesman said that after many meetings where the Pope “was giving everything he had to be kind with everyone, he is pulled down from one side and started to fall – this really is something that can put you on edge.”

Fr. Lombardi said the event is ultimately of little importance and noted that the pontiff continued on with his activities with the same enthusiasm and affection as before.

Pope Francis was in the city of Morelia on his fourth full day of his Feb. 12-17 visit to Mexico. He also spent time visiting a children’s hospital and prison, praying before the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City, and meeting with young people, workers, religious and civil authorities.

His final major event will be a Feb. 17 Mass in Ciudad Juárez, a city plagued by drug violence which borders the U.S. city of El Paso, Texas.

Very true! I’m sure he’ll treasure that story forever. 😃

There is such a thing as righteous anger. A measure of anger can be the appropriate response, as when the Lord drove the money changers from the temple, for example.

I remember, with abject horror, when a deranged woman jumped the barrier at Saint Peter’s Basilica and attacked Pope Benedict as he processed to the altar for midnight Mass. Cardinal Etchegaray fell and broke his hip while trying to shield the Holy Father even as she took such a hold of the Pope’s chasuble that he was pulled to the ground. Bedlam ensued as the woman was captured, the Holy Father assisted, and the Cardinal taken away by ambulance to care for his grave injury. It was truly a horrifying moment.

Given that the Pope fell on marble, it is little else than a miracle that he did not have the same fate as Cardinal Etchegaray.

The proper response to being attacked in this brutal fashion is anger. An anger that seeks to ward off and repulses one’s assailant.

In the case at hand, Pope Francis could have been seriously injured as could the poor man that he fell upon…though thanks be to God, neither of them were…all because people became unhinged in their excitement.

One would hope that a response of measured anger by the Vicar of Christ would cause these people, who were acting out of excitement and with no thought to the potential for harm, to be instantly summoned back to reality and cease their ridiculous actions before causing even more harm.

Anyone would be upset if that happened to them, (I wouldn’t call it angry). I’m sure he was very concerned about the boy he fell on. He told the man not to be selfish. (Think of others before yourself). God Bless, Memaw

This is not only a human reaction on the part of the Pope, but he is right since, due to the crowd’s shoving, he almost fell on a disabled boy.

I agree with you; he was just upset and concerned about the little boy as any kind person would be, and Pope Francis is extremely kind.

This is not only a human reaction on the part of the Pope, but he is right since, due to the crowd’s shoving, he almost fell on a disabled boy.
Sure looked like he did fall on the boy. And even then his “anger” was pretty mild when you consider all he said was “don’t be selfish” to the person who yanked him down.

Then the boy jumped out of his wheelchair and shouted, “I can walk! I can walk!”
