In his letter Pope Francis quoted from the declaration, saying, “The Church recognises the ‘extreme importance of education in the life of man and how its influence ever grows in the social progress of this age’, are profoundly linked to the fulfilment of ‘the mandate she has received from her divine founder of proclaiming the mystery of salvation to all men and of restoring all things in Christ’.”

Now is we can only get the American churches to care.
the private school model just doesn’t work. Let’s back to the mission.
👍

But aren’t Catholic schools considered private?

I think I know what you mean but I had to ask.

Thank God for Pope Francis

It’s about time Faithful Catholics but back the word Catholic in Our schools and hopefully this can be done with Norte Dame and Catholic Universities as well.

Very nice, indeed…thank you, Lord Jesus!

May God bless you all abundantly and forever! 🙂

I mean private in that our focus has become elitist. You can learn calculus anywhere. Catholic school should at least SOME focus on Christ.
I know it’s not like that in many places,(God bless them) but in some places…we have REALLY lost the vision.

Sounds fabulous. **IF **it can help to make Catholic education affordable. Currently, I’d say that’s one of the major impediments Catholic schools face.

Homeschooling is the answer for some. It needs to start somewhere. My family and other families did without so they could send us to Catholic school.

Yes, mine did too when I was young. Sadly, the costs are now so astronomical that my children would have to do without on a much, much larger and more dire level if we were to enroll them in our parish’s school. What was once manageable if one scrimped and made sacrifices is now completely unattainable for many.

Yes. When Catholic kindergarten is 8 grand a year…something is out of whack.
Catholic high school at 60 grand for the 4 years?
Craziness.

I understand about half of ND’s faculty is not even Catholic. I don’t know if I’d push the term Catholic university too much.

Certainly not in Argentina. I had 3 years of theology while in Law School. And the same goes for evey other career.

I post from my experiences in the U.S.
My dear friend was educated in Columbia and received a fabulous education.
I can’t say it was particularly Catholic, but he was indeed very well educated in a Catholic institution.

If that is the case then parents should put in an hour or so to teach correct Catholic teaching and reviewing the books their kids are using, or if on the computer, reviewing their homework and correcting them as necessary. While all teachers deserve respect, the public school system is corrupted and missing the necessary religious dimension that is so necessary.

Teachers, in too many cases today, cannot provide what they don’t know, have textbooks that are biased, and/or have been taught wrong things or engage in lifestyles that are against social order and immoral, while presenting them as normative.
