One of the most stupid comments ever made to a couple who adopted a Chinese baby was, “What are you going to do when she grows up and starts speaking Chinese? You’re not going to understand a word of what she says.”

Yeah like Chinese babies are preprogrammed to speak Chinese.

You can’t even point out instances of racism anymore without offending someone. Anyone who does not loudly denounce racism, is tacitly supportive of racism.

But you’re the one that’s offended when people point out racism.

Trump is trying to newspeak away racism.

I sense a lack of sincerity.

Why is it so hard for conservatives to denounce trump’s racism?

That’s why it’s so hard for you to denounce trump’s racism? I don’t understand.

I’ll be plain. What you sensed is wrong. I just did denounce him and you are looking for excuses.

You still haven’t answered my question. I’m simply wondering why conservatives need to nudged in order to denounce trump and his racism. Shouldn’t it be an automatic response to denounce trump and his racism?

I don’t know why they are obstinate and I didn’t need to be nudged.

I think it’s a human problem and not limited to conservatives. People tend to excuse or minimize the actions of those people or groups they support.

I see the same with the abuse scandals and other Church related things.

Liberals aren’t the ones being racist though. We need to stop with the false equivalencies.

No, they are just firing up more racism, many are agitators, and politically correct Saul Alinsky advocates.

Do you have any evidence to support these claims?

What’s “saul alinsky”?

This!

Both parties have many examples of this. Few political types want to remove the log in their eye before pointing out the speck in the others.

gweilo (foreign devil)
This translation is a gross misunderstanding of the Chinese language. Certainly no one who uses the term gweilo conjures up images of the devil just as if I say Liverpool people only think about the place in UK or the Beatles but not the organ liver in a swimming pool.

So gweilo itself is not racist just as the word “woman” is not sexist because it contains the word man in it.

Gwei can mean ghost. Anyone who dies can become a ghost in Chinese culture. You can have good ghost and bad ghost. There is no concept of the devil, that’s a Christian idea. But the original meaning of the word is probably “foreign” or “extraordinary”. Anything that is not ordinary. Hence gweicai means extraordinary talent (cai means talent) and is used in a positive sense. Lo just means man. So gweilo means a foreign man or a man who is not ordinary (that is not Chinese).
