The Pope has a new book out, in which he comments on the events of the last year. He directly takes on the anti-mask movement, saying:
“Some of the protests during the coronavirus have brought to the fore an angry spirit of victimhood,” he writes, “but this time among people who are victims only in their own imagination: those who claim, for example, that being forced to wear a mask is an unwarranted imposition by the state, yet who forget or do not care about those who cannot rely, for example, on social security or who have lost their jobs.”

In those protests, Francis sees examples of narcissism, “people who live off grievance, thinking only of themselves.”

Have couple books by pope Francis, I hope I will read this one too.

“What matters more: to take care of people or keep the financial system going?” he asks. He has harsh words for governments that prioritized the protection of the economy, saying they “mortgaged their people.”

As a Christian the choice should be obvious, but it is astounding how some just can’t accept this scriptural position with faith in God.

To be fair, the “other side” believes that economic and financial damage caused by lockdowns and stay-at-home mandates also jeopardizes people’s lives, perhaps even more than the virus itself. Further, they believe masks are not really a good solution to protecting one from the virus, as well as being an infringement of one’s personal freedom. My feeling is that even if masks are not as good as touted, they are most likely better than no masks, and combined with smaller social gatherings, social distancing, and good hygiene measures, the spread of the virus can be mitigated and lives can be spared, These TEMPORARY measures are needed, I believe, to get the economy started again and to avoid further lockdowns.

So would all of you be in support of governments who start locking people up who refuse to take a covid vaccine and wear a mask? Will you start saying you shoulda listened?

The death rate is similar to a seasonal flu. Roughly half of deaths could have been prevented if state govenors didnt force old people back into nursing homes after identifying what it was in the hospital.
This is nowhere near smallpox. 1 in 3 died of small pox. Artificially 1 in approx 700 are dieing due to the mismanagement of old people with the virus. Let us not forget about the monetary incentives for hospitals reporting covid cases. Hospitals receiving federal funds, were given additional funding depending on amount of cases reported, which leads to blanket diagnosis.

The pcr test is not being used how it was designed to be used. Plenty of scienetists and doctors have refuted the number of cycles that samples go through, cdc says 40 cycles is the max. Some object to that and say 25 is the limit, some say 35. How can we know what is the TRUTH if the opposing side is not offered a chance to speak? We have no way of knowing which test labs are testing at which cycle.

I believe and I think it would be in line with Pope Francis and the Church that those considerations have to be factored into policy but that the number one preeminent issue is peoples safety and lives. Work out from there. There has to be an objective moral obligation when peoples lives are at stake.

Lets stop with the hypocrisy. Where is the condemnation of blm protests during the same time? No masks to be seen on a majority of participents. Why are only antimaskers being targeted here?

Did you read the article. The Pope also spoke strongly in favor of the BLM protests.

Can you not discern the difference between a protest against racism and discrimination and a protest against a life saving measure during a deadly pandemic? Sometimes I just don’t know how to engage in these discussions.

Hope you dont mind I am linking this thread too TMC.
The Pope has riled China in his new book.

China criticises Pope Francis Catholic News
'China has criticised Pope Francis over a passage in his new book in which he mentions the suffering of China’s Uighur Muslim minority group, saying his remarks have “no factual basis at all”. “People of all ethnic groups enjoy the full rights of survival, development, and freedom of religious belief,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said at a daily news briefing in Beijing on Tuesday.’ The question is who in the Chinese Ministry read the book and slammed Pope Francis apart…

A fair and reasoned approach, not at all unexpected from you, man. Glad to have you on here.

It is hysterical how you completely gloss over my multiparagraph response towards the blindness of the casedemic.

Somebody has to stick up for the truth here.

The leader of the church should be seeking the truth in all matters. Not what is politacally and monetarily advantageous to the church’s position.

Willfully glossing over valid points is a sin of omission.

antimaskers
I agree with everything you say, except for the label “antimaskers”. That implies some kind of organization or at least personal identity. I think that masks are political theater, but I don’t identify myself by my “mask-stance”.

And that is what he is doing. The fact that Catholic morality occasional conflicts with American politics may be uncomfortable for some, but I am glad the Pope persists in speaking out on these issues.
