Its too bad that Kobe is dead. His spoken Italian could have been an assistance in the audience with the Pope.

It is hysterical how you completely gloss over my multiparagraph response towards the blindness of the casedemic.

Somebody has to stick up for the truth here.

The leader of the church should be seeking the truth in all matters. Not what is politacally and monetarily advantageous to the church’s position.

Willfully glossing over valid points is a sin of omission.
Any shred of cred you believe you have is completely voided by the ad hominems, sarcasm and snark. Sorry but its not worth engaging with.

I seem to remember the protests were against the shut downs, rather than the masks per se?

(I have family whose businesses have been ruined by the pandemic. Independent small business owners )

And the conclusion is…

Support the McCarrick Deal with China!

but I am glad the Pope persists in speaking out on these issues
Are you glad the Pope speaks out on these issues without a mask?
(I support our Pope in choosing to not wear masks in the many cases he doesn’t.)

As best I can tell, the Pope has protocols that he follows, like most public figures. He is often seen speaking without a mask, but I also see him wearing a mask when near the public and so forth. I hope he is getting good advice from his medical staff and following it.

Cathoholic . . .

Bold mine.

That is fair enough.

How 'bout me? Or you? Or someone else?

Can we too have our own set “protocols” where we too can discard the masks in group settings?

. . . .

I’m sad that so many people are going to starve to death because of the lock downs though 😦 If only the they were as economically well off as you are to not have to work or rely on the food industries 😦

But hey, don’t mind us over here, caring about making sure people can eat 🙂 Just keep labeling us as bad Christians (I mean, how can we not be, we disagree with your exalted wisdom!)
[/quote]

To think with the Church and be attuned to Pope Francis the champion of the poor is important to me. So it’s not my ‘exalted wisdom’ but the Church’s that I defer to. I read your deleted text and was surprised that you were allowed to still post the ad hominem that you were allowed to.

How about you Motherwit?

I am interested to hear what you think.

Are you glad the Pope speaks out on these issues without a mask? (I am glad he gets to make such choices for himself. I would be happy either way with his choice. Are you too?)

I don’t have a big problem with the Pope, but I preferred the books written by Pope JPI and Pope JPII to this sort of current events knee-jerk scold response.

I feel like every time this Pope says something, it’s to lecture everybody who isn’t poor and living in a favela somewhere, to tell us all how bad we are. And I even wear a mask and marched in a George Floyd rally.

It reminds me uncomfortably of some of the social-justice-oriented types from my youth.

I know I’m not that important, but I’d prefer to hear my Pope say something pastoral to me.

There’s a lot of legitimate reason why someone might not wear a mask but to reject the medical evidence on nothing but a principle of ‘my rights’ is rejecting the teaching of Christ.

Gal 5:13-14 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

1 Cor 10:23-24 “All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up. Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor.

These measures aren’t going to be permanent. Lets just do it for the sake of ending the pandemic.

The pope probably doesn’t know the nuance of the situation.

There’s a lot of legitimate reason why someone might not wear a mask
Why not give a list of possible reasons anybody might have a “legitimate reason” to not wear a mask in a public setting?

Can we too have our own set “protocols” where we too can discard the masks in group settings?
We follow the advice and direction of competent authority, just like the Pope. What have you got against the Pope, BTW? Why the hostility?

Asthma and breathing difficulties would be the main ones. A lot of countries require people with exemptions to wear a recognizable lanyard around their necks displaying a card to that effect.

There are going to be people are won’t be able to have the vaccine either for legitimate reasons but those of us who can participate in these measures that reduce the spread can all assist those who legitimately can’t.

It’s similar in that if the majority wear masks reducing the general spread, it’s safer for those who can’t wear masks to do the essentials.

Why are you attempting to change the thread about the news story over to me?
And what do you imagine as my alleged “hostility”?

Especially when I have clearly said I support the Pope here??

Here it is again . . .
Are you glad the Pope speaks out on these issues without a mask?

I don’t get that.

I openly support the Pope, and you point at me for “hostility” against the Pope?

Let’s try to get back to the thread topic.

I asked
Are you glad the Pope speaks out on these issues without a mask?
(I support our Pope in choosing to not wear masks in the many cases he doesn’t.)
You responded saying the Pope has “protocols”.

I mentioned . . .
That is fair enough.

How 'bout me? Or you? Or someone else?

Can we too have our own set “protocols” where we too can discard the masks in group settings?
Then you deflected the thread at me personally accusing me of “hostility” to the Pope which is just plain false.
What have you got against the Pope, BTW? Why the hostility?
I’m thinking . . . Huh??? (Where did THAT come from?)

Look. If you have no answer as to WHY you think it is OK for the Pope, or whoever to not wear masks, but have no answer as to WHY the rest of the population should not be allowed the same courtesy, I understand.

There just is no good answer.

OK. But the Pope evidently didn’t want to wear one (and I support him in that).

So the question remains, what about everybody else?

Is that OK for the rest of us too
to be without identification bands or neck exemptions, or whatever?
