Pope Francis: The Path of Humility Leads Christians to Jesus

When I first read this article,I thought he is preparing us for something. The beginning of it seemed like he was referring to people who receive messages and do nothing to discern spirits, and people follow their messages without discerning. Then he seemed to move on from that and talk about discerning everything we think and do. ( which is a good thing)

Did anyone else read it to say this? I am wondering if this goes along with his homily that Mary isn’t sending messages every day to people.

I think he was talking about any temptation. Here is a further quote. It may sound simple; but it is so, so hard.

The Test Is Jesus Christ

“No! We need to test things — this is from the Lord, and this is not — in order to remain in the Lord,” he continued, adding that John gives us a “simple” criterion to determine what is from God and what is from the Antichrist.

“Every spirit that acknowledges Jesus Christ come in the flesh belongs to God, and every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus does not belong to God,” the Pope noted. “This is the spirit of the Antichrist.”

To fully recognize “that the Word is come in the flesh,” Pope Francis explained, means to recognize “the path of Jesus Christ” and that Jesus, “being God, emptied himself; he humbled himself,” even to “death on the cross.”

“If a thought, if a desire takes you along the road of humility and abasement, of service to others, it is from Jesus,” noted Pope Francis, “but if it brings you to the road of sufficiency, of vanity, of pride, along the path of an abstract thought, it is not from Jesus.”
