Interesting history on who was selected to have their feet washed by previous Popes.

Will there also be a Holy Thursday Mass of the Last Supper at St. Peter’s Basilica? If so, who will preside?

What about the procession of the Blessed Sacrament to a place for adoration after the Mass?

I’m confused.

As far as a papal Holy Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica (or any other basilica for that matter) for the Holy Thursday Mass of the Last Supper, there won’t be one.

I don’t know about the Blessed Sacrament procession if there will be one… maybe in the prison grounds?

When one reads the whole article, what Pope Francis will be doing is a variation on Papal traditions from a considerable time period (several Popes). It’s a tradition which includes the young, those in prison, the elderly, and the laity. I might even expect that he would change the venue next year, as some of his predecessors also did.
🙂

I suspect that most Catholics didn’t even know most of the details in the article.

So when do the priests renew their vows? That’s a big part of Holy Thursday Mass as well.

That is at the Chrism Mass earlier in the day. I believe that Mass is in the basciica. The Holy Father’s schedule is listed on Vatican news and similar sources.

I have a weird feeling about how this article will be seen on FaceBook.

The Chrism Mass for a diocese is at the Cathedral, for Rome, that would be St. John Lateran. That is where the past Popes have celebrated the Chrism Mass, and I have not hear anything about +Francis moving it to St. Peters

Normally, the Chrism Mass is at the Cathedral, but it is being held this year at St. Peters, since +Francis has not formally taken possession of St. John Lateran yet.
The Mass of the Lord’s Supper is traditionally scheduled for the basilica of St. John Lateran. However that venue was considered appropriate this year because Pope Francis has not yet formally “taken possession” of the basilica.

Thank you. I had seen the schedule earlier but couldn’t remember exactly where the Chrism Mass was happening.

It seems that traditional is not being completely overthrown. 😉 Reading through the article shows us that at several times in the past, Popes other than Francis have washed the feet of non-priests, including the ill, the elderly, the poor, the young.

Great minds think alike. ;). Or at least read the same articles all the way through to the end.
