This is a very good point. That’s the reason that when I travel I never stay at hotels. I find a homeless shelter and sleep there. The wanderer does not have a warm cozy bed. “The Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”

I do admire your spirituality. Being in the company of the downtrodden gives you the opportunity to preach hope to them.

This is not something everyone can do. A friend of mine who is a trucker learned the hard way that any valuables not under lock and key at bus stations and shelters can be stolen in seconds, and the definition of “valuables” included his bedroll, jacket, and pillow. And if you’re traveling with family, a homeless shelter is not a good place to be unless you have absolutely no other option.

Question: I know that all such shelters have limited capacity. If you are in one on a freezing cold night, do you go to a motel so that a truly homeless person can have a bed in the shelter that night? Or do you pay the room rent at the motel for a homeless person who can’t get in to the shelter that night?

If I have the money, I will pay for a person to sleep in a motel. The fact is that I never have money when I travel. I beg as I go along.
