Continuing his catechesis on the family, Pope Francis devoted his May 20 general audience to parents’ natural vocation to educate their children.
Intellectual critics, said the Pope, “have silenced parents in many ways, to protect the young generation from the damage-- real or imagined-- of family education.”
“The family has stood accused, among other things, of authoritarianism, cronyism, of conformism, of affective repression that generates conflicts,” the Pope added. So-called experts took over the “role of parents even in the most intimate aspects of education … On the emotional life, personality and development, rights and duties, the ‘experts’ know everything: objectives, motivations, techniques.”

Well said.

On a more practical note, the ‘experts’ have almost always been wrong.

Look at:
Whole word reading
Common Core Math
Dumbed down, misinterpreted, and outright false history.
The drugging of American boys

I’ve said this several times, but the basis of compulsory public education lies in the German Prussian model, whose primary focus is not making creative, independent individuals, but conformist cogs. It’s no wonder homeschooling parents, outside the direction of ‘experts’, crush traditional public schools. The ‘experts’ are frauds, and should be treated as such.

I will make an exception for literature. I always had excellent books assigned, and teachers who understood the nuances to look for.

And, unfortunately most parents have not faired any better…it only took me a year of teaching to realize a vase majority of parents viewed the school house as little more than a day care center so they could move on with their busy lives while someone entertained their kids.

It was amazing how many did nothing to work with their kids the other 16 hours a day they were out of school, but blamed teachers for not creating geniuses in 6 hours a day.

This is one of many Pope Francis statements that will be ignored by the Media. They pick and choose what they report.

Thank you for posting this. Over the decades, I have watched the decline of unbiased ‘experts’ in various areas. And all the blame cannot be placed on parents for a lack of participation in their children’s lives, or passing on incorrect ideas. As the mass media gradually declined in quality, all were gradually affected, unless they took steps to do more research. The damage done to the family over the years has confused parents as well regarding roles and priorities.

God bless Pope Francis.

I wish I could give this post 1,000 thumbs up!

Exactly. Any “expert” will tell you that the family structure is a very important part of the learning process. Sometimes these students have so much going on at home that it seems like you are only making a small dent in their lives.

Thanks for the share. This is an important message–that the primary responsibility of teaching children rests on parents’ shoulders, and that any outsourcing to external teachers is still under the auspices of parental oversight.

Thanks, Ed. It happened in Canada, now here 😦 The gay agenda is pushing hard in every country. There is a prayer thread for Ireland, in it there is a link about how American LGBT organizations have been funding them for years 😦 This is regarding the vote for gay “marriage” taking place Friday, May 22. It is all demonic.

God bless you!
