The Palestinian people are fine but nearby Lebanon has seen a number of political assassination and Iran nonetheless, has connections in that area of the world as well.

Some people would say the people of Israel in a sense, face the possibility of terrorism daily.

Jesus was seized at one point in the Gospels by a bunch of people who took him away to stone him, but did some sort of disappearing/invisibility thing and escapes unharmed. It is not always wrong to avoid unnecessarily making yourself a target.
Am I the only one hoping that the Holy Father makes himself invisible or disappears if cornered? 😃

I think that is great. I love Pope Francis, but who over anyone else should be willing to take a bullet for God! I always found it a little disturbing that the other Pope’s used one. I certainly could not imagine Jesus use one. If the Pope shows he doesn’t have faith in God’s plan for him, why should we. What a great example of Jesus he has been.
And why we are at it, let’s not wear our winter coats out when it’s 10 below zero. God will take care, right? Or maybe God gave us coats for a reason…

And although he’s not driving in a bullet-proof vehicle, I’m assuming he’s not flying coach with no security detail. He is obviously taking measure to protect himself.

Peace

We are not taking about us, and if the Pope Francis saw a person out in 10 below weather with no coat I have no doubt he would give the one off his own back. Obviously Pope Francis doesn’t think as you do. If Jesus took all the such precaution He would not have died on the cross for us would he?

When you show me the article that says Pope Francis is taking no security precautions whatsoever, I’ll concede your point.

However, since I’m quite sure he will still have armed security, he’s obviously not throwing caution to the wind as you suggest.

Ironically, if an assassination attempt is made on the Pope, the likely assassin would probably have heard that the Pope will not be riding in a bulletproof car from the nightly news… not a good thing to advertise.

LOVE! ❤️

Of course he isn’t. BTW I am not trying to be right or change you view, it is simply my opinion.

I understand! That’s what these forums are for. Lively debate - with charity of course!

“We” are not taking unnecessary risks. The Pope has every right over the say on his safety, not you. I truly admire what he is doing. He is showing the world that we should be willing to die for our faith anytime and anywhere, just as Christ did. This is not a political move, it is truly a spiritual one. It :blush:is what the Church needs right now, IMO!😊
But how willing are we to die… To ourselves, each day, for God? Thats the harder part.

It’s a good question. Although I may have disagreed with shelby sun’s assertions (or how I interpreted those assertions) that the Pope was, in a way, throwing all of his trust in God, I think it’s a wonderful gesture if someone does do that. I think shelby sun was spot on in hoping/thinking that the Pope was truly a role model for reliance on Christ. I’m just wondering if relying on Christ requires us to “throw caution to the wind.”

It begs the bigger question: if God gives us resources, should we not use them? If he give us food to eat so we don’t starve, we should eat it right? If he gives us guns to protect ourselves, should we use them? How about a bullet-proof vehicle? One could say “God has protected you. He gave you a bullet-proof car!” Is that a fair analysis?

It’s a good debate, honestly.

Peace,

Sean

I believe that the vast majority of hermits, monks and cloistered nuns would place their trust in God.

I still found it disturbing that a bullet proof car was used any Pope. Again I just don’t see Jesus ever doing that so why should any successor of Peter? Pope Francis seems to understand that. He is the most important servant of God and above anyone else should be willing to die for Him just as Jesus did.

Just because previous Popes had bullet proof glass to protect themselves doesn’t permit you to question their love for Jesus or the Church.

Do you believe a Pope doesn’t trust in God if he has armed security or rides in a bullet proof car? What do you think about the Swiss Guard?

Maybe the Pope is going bullet-proof-less as a sort of political statement? As in, to say that he trusts the people of the Middle East? I could be wrong though. I don’t know anything about all this honestly. 😊

I can see merits on both sides:

It isn’t strange to want to protect the Pope. After all, we like them! And it’s a long process of choosing one.

Then again, it is also great to show a level of trust; a willingness to be vulnerable. A desire to fully connect with the people, with no barriers in between.

I would support either decision, though honestly, if it were me, I think I don’t know what I’d choose. After all, even though dying for the faith is very noble, but it is generally something that happens when there are no alternatives. I’m reminded of the Gospel message from two weeks ago: “I came so that you might have life, and have it abundantly.”

All this aside, I completely support Pope Francis in his decision.

Yes I know but that does change my opinion. I still found it disturbing that a bullet proof car was used any Pope. Again I just don’t see Jesus ever doing that so why should any successor of Peter?
Bullets were not available at the time of Jesus. People have every right to defend themselves against assassination, so I personally do not see any problem with a Pope riding in a bullet proof car if he wanted to do that.

Maybe using a bullet proof car is not a sign of a lack of faith, but just being a responsible person.
So are you saying this Pope is not a responsible person? Do you think you know better then he does how he sees fit to serve God.

Just because previous Popes had bullet proof glass to protect themselves doesn’t permit you to question their love for Jesus or the Church.
Excuse me I didn’t question the other Popes’ faith, please do not put words in my mouth like so many other do. I said I found it disturbing, that does mean the Pope himself ask for the bullet proof car, but rather I assume that the Vatican security insisted on it and Pope Francis does do what he doesn’t see is right for him, just because it was done before…

A bullet proof car is an extreme which the Jesuit don’t do. It has not be stated that he will walk around in public; although, it wouldn’t surprise me. Why not just car?

I find it funny that many of the people questioning his decision on this a re probably the same one who would never question his authority on anything else.

Jesus could have fled and not been killed, he chose to stay and faces his enemies because he knew God’s plan. Maybe Pope Francis knows that also. People knew to get used tot he fact that he is not joining to just do thing the way the had been done before.
Those who elected him knew that because the knew how the Jesuit live their life and that would never change just because he became Pope.

True, but the Apostles fled to avoid the same fate. Someone was needed to spread the Word.

I believe even the Pope spoke about this recently, even if indirectly. It was about clericalization of the laity. Being a martyr is great and we are all called to that, in one way or another. Sometimes living a regular life is harder than physically dying for the faith, but it still requires dying (to one’s self) for the faith nonetheless.

And someone made a good point about doing dangerous things unnecessarily, presuming God will save us each time. That is putting God to the test.
