Well this is going to make it even harder to evangelize my Protestant family and friends…

Well, they are the ones with the problem. Maybe a bit narrow-minded of them. Protestant can suffer from this affliction.

Good for the Holy Father. I know that he is not the first Pope to visit a mosque but I am so happy he is continuing this trend.

Some Catholics have the same affliction. 🙂

What is the purpose of the visit? Visiting a Mosque isn’t inherently good or bad. So what is the point of the visit?

Then you should ask what was the purpose of the Pope’s recent visit to the Synagogue.

Same reason I believe one should visit and dialogue with any other philosophies or world views. For peaceful dialogue.

The One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church alone holds the whole truth, while others hold bits and pieces of it, some more so than others and others even very close.

While ever this end goal is in mind, all is good, if one loses sight of the end goal, then it’s a worry, as all world views and philosophies cannot be reconciled without major contradictions.

If an Imam believed it was ‘just’ to stone an adulterer to death, they would need to be rebuked by a Christian. Just as Christ rebuked the Pharisees when they wished to do it.

I’m happy the Pope is visiting this Mosque, and I would love to see peaceful relations between Christians and Muslims, but it cannot be at the expense of truth, if it’s at the price of say an adulterer being stoned to death, there should be no peace with that, if it’s at the price of the death penalty for a person leaving Islam and converting to Christianity, there should be no peace with that. And the same goes for any other religion, philosophy or world view.

I hope this has helped

God Bless

I really like Pope Francis too. 🙂

I try to be careful though, as I believe there is much out there that twists and distorts the words and actions of our Pope.

God Bless You

If it is a call to conversion, I would admire his guts.
Which I believe it always should be, peaceful dialogue with a call or end goal of conversion. 👍

I do. I also wonder about visiting a Protestant church. There has to be a point and it would be interesting to know the intent.
Perhaps to pray together, as is what he (and past Popes) usually do.

Pope Francis is following the example of Jesus.

Read John 4, about Jesus and the Samaritan woman.

What a great gift it will be, when the Holy Father’s efforts in this endeavor are fully realized and that mosque one day becomes a Catholic Church. Pray for Pope Francis as he goes even into places of great danger in order to convert people from Islam!

hmm…I don’t think he’s going there to proselytize:shrug:

I would think that is the furthermost thing from his mind. He is going out to meet people where they are at and acknowledging their value in Gods eyes.

Ummm, I don’t think that is why he is going to pray in the Mosque. He will undoubtedly honor the Muslims and their faith. As he should.
