Curious how people feel about the new Pope?

Initial impression for me is selecting the name of a saint Christians revere across the world. For what it means to be Assisi.

Very Catholic! LOL. No he is extremely humble and I believe is a great witness to the Faith.

I think of the last three Popes this way: John Paul II was known for his profound spirit. Benedict is known for his brilliant, analytical, theological mind. Francis is becoming known for his wonderful heart. Taken together, their qualities represent the completeness of the human person.

Lutherans pray for Francis, as well

Here is what Lutherans are thinking:
The Lutheran - May 2013
Is Francis I our pope?
Regardless, we pray for his success
At the close of our regular Thursday evening’s chancel choir rehearsal the director named those in the congregation who were ill or grieving for whom we should pray. Then she asked, “Is there any good news?”

In response, a voice from the soprano section announced, “Well, we have a new pope.”
Another soprano responded, “They have a pope. We don’t. We’re Lutheran.”

Someone in the bass section spoke up saying, “At the highest theological levels, on the key subject of justification by faith, the Roman Catholic Church and the Lutherans have no essential differences.”

Another bass whispered that this makes little difference since many folks at the parish level pay scant attention to such agreements.

So do Lutherans have a new pope or not?
When someone counts Christians around the world, Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, Protestants and others compose one body. Further, the pope resides among the Western church with its emphasis on the meaning of the cross. As for Lutherans, few non-Roman Catholics in the Western church, with the possible exception of Anglicans, follow the liturgical pattern of the mass more faithfully.

Evangel Catholic:

Pastor Gary/ELCA was very happy with our new Pope and was very gracious in sharing his thoughts on this.

Mary.
(I don’t recall his User Name right now gnuss? I could be wrong)

How do I feel about Pope Francis…

Well, I have to say he’s unlike any other pope in MY lifetime (Paul VI, John Paul I, John Paul II, Benedict XVI).

He seems to have a tremendous presence, and delivers a killer homily (that means it’s good!). I think he’s a pope that can appeal to almost anyone, and I think the best is yet to come.

Some of his writings may be found here: vatican.va/holy_father/francesco/index.htm

Look to the far left and enjoy. A good and holy man, and ANY Christian could learn much from him.

So far I’ve only heard good things about him and even non-Catholics seem to like him. I love that he picked Francis for his name because he’s one of my favorite saints. He seems to have a compassionate and gentle heart, especially for the poor and marginalized, and that also appeals to me. I’m glad that he will be our Pope when I go through my confirmation.

I’m not Catholic (not yet anyways) but I truly love this new Pope. He is very humble and has an incredible heart! Very charitable and you can tell by the sermons given that he truly cares about EVERYONE on this planet. I love reading his words, truly a man of God.

He’s great. He’s the first Pope since I was born that I was never in communion with 😉
He’s been viewed very positively by the Orthodox in many ways.

I don’t know much about him. What I do like is that his clothing is not extravagent. He’s probably the most humble pope in a long time. He named himself after St. Francis, which I think is an interesting choice. St. Francis was undoubtedly a fascinating man. His life of asceticism is something I admire. He would often prance through the streets, singing hymns in french, preaching to anyone who would listen and would occasionally break into tears of ecstasy.
