VATICAN CITY — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has sent a letter to the pope thanking him for opposing a Florida pastor’s threat to burn the Quran and calling for cooperation against secularism, the Vatican and the Iranian presidency said Saturday.
The Vatican said Pope Benedict XVI had received the letter during a brief meeting with one of Iran’s vice presidents at the end of his weekly general audience Wednesday.
Vatican spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi did not release the contents of the message.
But the website of the Iranian presidency quoted Ahmadinejad as thanking the pope “for your condemnation of an unwise move by a Florida church.”

This seems to be a bit interesting. Any thoughts on this?

The Bishops Synod on the Middle East commenced at the Vatican yesterday. There is a majority representation from the Eastern Catholic Churches as well as attendance by a few Jewish and Muslim religious leaders. One of the issues will touch on Catholic flight from the region.

Iran does not allow Mass to be in Farsi at the moment. It also is not Christian-friendly in respect of employment. If the letter from Ahmadinejad is a gesture of acknowledgment of Catholic goodwill, then one is hopeful and prayerful for a further extension towards that.

I agree. Maybe there is hope. That this war, that this extreme muslim, are fighting. will be seen as a one sided war. It’s a very slim hope though.

as long as we defend islam, they may not beat on us so hard. but if we dare to critic islam and evangelize in the islamic world, we’re dead meat. i suppose this letter is fruit of our vatican ii church. at least something good came from it.

The letter from Ahmadinejad is “fruit of our Vatican II Church?” How puzzling. I would have thought it was simply a diplomatic gesture on the part of the Government of Iran. Such letters thanking leaders for this or that gesture really aren’t that unusual.

And 50 years from now someone with an axe to grind will write a book titled Ahmadinejad’s Pope.

Hah! No kidding.

It will start when some guy who holds the Church in contempt writes a play about B16 called “The Fatwa”. He will later admit that he made it all up after he also gets called out for making a play about how Barack Obama assassinated Michael Jackson. But the whole incident will have been forgotten by the time Ahmadinejad’s Pope is on the best seller list.

Couldn’t stop laughing for about, 34.016 Seconds 👍
