**Pope Benedict to visit US in 2008 By RACHEL ZOLL, AP Religion Writer **

BALTIMORE - Pope Benedict XVI will make his first visit to the United States as pontiff next year, and plans to visit the White House, ground zero and speak at the United Nations, Archbishop Pietro Sambi told the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Monday.

Benedict will travel to Washington and New York from April 15-20, speak at the United Nations on April 18 and visit ground zero on the final day of his trip.

A correction to the place Mass will be said in NYC, supposedly it will be at Yankee Stadium according to this.

I would love to go to either DC or NYC. I think DH and I might try to plan a trip to DC for then. šŸ™‚

I am in Denver that week for a conference so I would not be able to go.

Besides, I had enough of DC when I live in NoVa and I have no desire to go to NYC.

Yep, I did make a mistake - there is a Mass at Yankee stadium on Sunday afternoon (obviously before his return to Rome).

I’m sure EWTN will provide full coverage.

I hope His Holiness gives those U.S. politicians a kick in the rear.

Hurray! When he visits the White House he willl be only a few blocks from where I work. You better believe I will be standing there, Rosary in my hand, and joy in my heart! :extrahappy:

April 16, his 81st birthday, is my mother’s 82nd birthday . . .

Anyone know how one gets tickets to something like that? Is it a ā€œcamp outā€ event, where you wait in line outside the stadium for, say, forty-eight hours?

I hope they release some type of ticket info soon! I live in NoVA so it would be really easy for me to go.

Usually tickets are issued through Catholic organizations. For instance, the archdiocese will get a certain number; universities will get some; in this are I would anticipate the military receiving a fairly large number. VIP seats around here will likely be government, embassies, military. The ā€œtopicā€ of the tour may come into play as well – if His Holiness is directing his words to young people, you could expect schools to receive larger percentage. If he is speaking about health issues – look to the Catholic hospitals or service organizations.

Ticketmaster will not likely have it listed . . . 😃

I was wondering the same thing. I think this is a great excuse to take the kids on a road trip. šŸ˜‰

Anybody know how hard it is to get tickets to one of these Masses?

ETA do the tickets cost $$?

SO excited! We were ready to go to NYC when it seemed like he would just be there. Now we won’t have to travel as far. I plan to volunteer to coordinate a trip from my parish!

The tickets are generally free but quite hard to get. It helps to be friendly with your pastor and/or chancery staff.

IF you are seriously considering a vocation, be sure to be in contact with the vocation director of your diocese (especially if that happens to be Washington or NY).

Because the venues are fairly small (i.e., in stadiums rather than outdoors in a park) there will be little to no first-come-first-served if you stand in a long line type tickets.

Also, it never hurts to volunteer. They will need lots of ushers, etc.

And, for those of us in the District, get ready to call in your Catholic chips! 😃

This would be the time for me to actually pick a parish rather than floating around the 4 local ones lol
