Bearing witness to the faith was at the heart of Franc’s first two meetings in Uganda. The pontiff stressed the exemplary hospitality that Uganda has for the refugees at a time which we are witnessing the globalisation of a “throwaway culture". He told catechists to “Go forth without fear to every town and village in this country, to spread the good seed of God’s word".

I think it’s wonderful that he mentioned the Anglican martyrs of Uganda.

I think it’s wonderful that he mentioned the Anglican martyrs of Uganda.
I had so many wonderful and edifying contacts with the Church in Uganda over the years. I was always profoundly touched by how the witness of the respective martyrs cemented the relations between the Romans and the Anglicans. It was beautiful to see how much it meant to them, too.

The Pope is making news in the Anglican Church for his visit to site of the Ugandan Martyrs.
He says the gift of the Holy Spirit unites us as believers and members of Christ’s body. Wonderful!

“We remember also the Anglican martyrs whose deaths for Christ testify to the ecumenism of blood. All these witnesses nurtured the gift of the Holy Spirit in their lives and freely gave testimony of their faith in Jesus Christ, even at the cost of their lives, many at such a young age.

“The gift of the Holy Spirit is a gift which is meant to be shared. It unites us to one another as believers and living members of Christ’s mystical Body. We do not receive the gift of the Spirit for ourselves alone, but to build up one another in faith, hope and love.”
