Thanks for your prayers. The afternoon went well. Now I’ve got some deskwork deadlines due by the 31st that I’m trying to get out of the way, any more prayers out there! 🙂

I’ve certainly added Joan to my prayers, and I’ll include the challenges she’s encountered that have shaken her faith. I’m glad to know that she’s hanging in there. Perhaps this is her opportunity to get even closer to God than she was before.

God Bless you for bringing her the information on Pope Joan with Charity,

CARose
I’m glad the afternoon went well, and I’ll pray that you get your work done too! I know how it is to have a deadline staring you in the face!

G-d bless you too! Once I see her Friday, I’ll let you know what her response about Pope Joan is. Thank you for your prayers! 🙂

Hi everyone,

My choir director told me this morning that there was one female Pope in the history of the Church. I expressed my unbelief at this, but two other women on my choir backed her up. Is this true? I find it extremely hard to believe. If anyone knows anything about this, please help, thanks.

By the way, they told me her name was Pope Joan, hence the title of this thread.
another myth ,probably from the same basket as the da. vinci code.
wait for the movie

Sure thing. I’ll be praying!

And her name is Joan. (Seriously, it is.) Also pray for her because she’s been experiencing some real trials that have battered her faith in the past year too. She’s hanging on to G-d through it all. Please pray that she continues.
sure, we’ll pray for joan.

Since I started this thread, I’ve researched the story of Pope Joan thanks to some resources that other posters have supplied here. It is a myth, but has nothing to do with the Da Vinci Code novel. The myth of Pope Joan dates back to the Middle Ages.

Hey JM,

How did it go with Joan and your voice coaching? Did she look at the material you provided her regarding Pope Joan? If so, what did she think of it?

She responded very well to the Pope Joan materials I provided for her. She admitted that she wasn’t very knowledgable about Church history. It was funny, she didn’t seem to be very surprised to learn that Pope Joan was fictitious.

As for my lesson today, it went well. She had me continue the aria, and wants me to try some Josh Groban material soon. So far, so good!

that’s great:)

Isn’t it funny how some people will allow themselves to believe such stuff in the first place? I’m glad she wasn’t so wedded to the craziness such a belief can lead to that she refused to accept the truth. Hopefully you’ll be able to lead her to Truth in other areas as well and through it bring her even closer to God.

Welcome to the confusing world of being Catholic, where we’re in the Church founded by Christ and we have sinner standing with saint, truth confused with fiction. I guess the weeds and the wheat really do grow side by side, waiting for the final judgement.

I just pray I manage to be wheat in the end.

And just think how confusing it can be for someone like me, who’s just coming into the faith. The story sounded suspect to me, which is why I asked about it here. I know I’ve only barely begun to scratch the surface of myths about the Church. I hope I can learn what’s true so I can separate it from the fiction.

I’m also gald she didn’t refute what I showed her. But, after all, I did giver a mountain of research I had obtained! 🙂

I love studying the Catholic faith! It’s so valuable! My experience with my choir director has proven that! 🙂

It was once said by a guest a Catholic radio show (sorry I don’t remember who right now)

“…think of your Catholic faith as a 2,000 year old tree - the Jewish religion is the roots and the Catholic church is the branches…”

Something like that anyway. It sounded much more eloquent than that when I heard it on the radio and it gave me goose bumps! It was beautiful.

This is great! G-d is going to allow you to help bolster the faith of this Catholic. You said she is shaky in her faith lately and doesn’t know a lot of history. Once someone, like you, actually looks at the history, a person’s faith is strengthened.

I will pray for Joan, but I will also pray for you to speak with boldness when you feel the leading of G-d gently encouraging you to share things you are learning with Joan!

Blessings,
Maria

I’m curious about the use of “G-d” in this thread.

Please forgive me if it has been explained, or if it obvious to most others, but it was a hard for me not to notice because I don’t see it too often. I did not read the thread entirely, but did scan all the appearances of “G-d” in this thread and saw nothing that would explain it.

Thank you for your prayers! As always, they’re appreciated!

My choir director and I have actually been having alot of talks lately. We’ve been discusing faith, salvation, G-d’s mercy and grace, and many other topics. I’ve told her about my faith journey, and she’s told me about hers. Maybe G-d wanted us to become friends so we can strengthen each other, who knows? 🙂

He has a way of doing these things! 😃

I’m a recent convert from Judaism. I’ve chosen to retain my Jewishness as a Hebrew Catholic. “G-d” is the Jewish way of writing the term used to designate Him. By not writing His name out fully, His name will not be destroyed. (For example, this post will ultimately be deleted. By not fully writing out His name, His name won’t be destroyed. It’s a Jewish sign of respect for Him.) Also, many Jews, myself included, feel that they are not worthy of writing out G-d’s name. So this is why you’ll see “G-d”, “L-rd”, etc. in Jewish writings from time to time. (Not all Jews do this, by the way. Most of the ones I’ve known have, though.)
