I truly hope that the Palestinians can have their own nation. I don’t think Israel wants them to have their own nation though regardless of the fact that they say they do. Their actions just don’t seem to back up their words.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert made a very generous offer to the Palestinians on September 16, 2008 which would have involved a swap of 6.3% of the West Bank for an equivalent amount of land in Israel. The Palestinians never responded.haaretz.co.il/hasite/images/iht_daily/D171209/olmertmap.pdf
And it was the Palestinians who walked out of the peace talks last September. If they want an independent state, they are going to have to negotiate with Israel.

They just can’t make offers while they continue to build on Palestinian territory. That doesn’t make any sense.

It isn’t Palestinian territory yet. It is disputed territory that Israel captured in a defensive war from an illegal occupier (Jordan) the boundaries of which need to be negotiated.
The Palestinians have wasted eight months by walking out of the talks. Eight months in which more and more Jews have returned to live in their ancestral homeland.
If the Palestinians were smart, they would return to the talks immediately and work on establishing the final borders.
Lest anyone misunderstand my position, I am 100% in favor of Obama’s proposal for the borders to be based on the pre-1967 armistice lines with mutual agreed swaps. Negotiations are the only way forward.
