Some are also making a point that Pope Francis is going to meet American prisoners but did not meet prisoners in Cuba.

Francis should have publicly demanded as a visiting head of state and Christ’s Vicar on Earth that not only should he have met publicly with these dissidents but that they should be pardoned and freed on the spot! That’s how you deal with tyrants. In the language they understand.

I am sure he had to weight his desire to meet with the Cuban people and speak to them versus whether to take a stand on this condition. We should trust he made the right call.

Since the dissidents are still in prison, I’m not sure he made the right call, Face to face confrontation with Raul on the podium would have engendered their release muy pronto. Tyrants abhor embarrassment.
