“I shared their suffering and, greatly moved, prayed with them, giving them assurances of the Church’s actions.” One sentence, but so much feeling and deep meaning. I felt like he was speaking for all of us rank and file Catholics, from all corners of the earth, in true and profound empathy for all of the many victims of clerical abuse. We all love and feel some of the pain of the victims (though no one can feel the true depth of their pain, but they themselves).

The Holy Father too has been victimized by these vile acts against God and nature. He is a beautiful, humble soul, our pontif, yet he has been vilified, debased and scandalized. An elderly man, he perserveres, moving forward in the face of fierce opposition. I love him, and I pray for him. He needs our prayers very badly. May God bless Pope Benedict. Viva il Papa!
