Good for him! It’s like he’s thumbing his nose at ISIS, not taking them seriously. No bully likes that. But still praying for him. :gopray2:

It’s like he’s telling them, “you wanna shoot me, go ahead”. I feel this is a horrible decision on the Pope’s part.

I think it’s courageous and shows ISIS they can’t intimidate as they please.

God Bless the Holy Father

This decision of his must have driven his security detail crazy with worry.

More pressure on the Swiss Guard and the Vatican police.

No one is going to frighten him into not being himself that’s for sure. Gotta respect him.

Just had a thought - David & Goliath. David didn’t wear armor either, and he found Goliath’s weak point.

Normally it isn’t wise to announce security issues beforehand regardless of what you’re doing.
.

He has Faith that he will not die unless God wills it. He has faith that if he does die, he will meet God and hopefully go to Heaven.

People do die outside of God’s will sometimes. The Pope has Faith. Literal Faith.

I agree. 😦

ISIS isn’t just a bully. They are a terrorist organization. They will kill him if they can.

I love pope Francis very much.

But if I were the head of his security detail I’d be in the Gemelli Clinic by now. In the psychiatric ward. In a straight jacket.

So much that will do if he gets assassinated, which I sincerely hope does not happen.

He takes his vow?/promise? of willing to spill his blood for the sake of Christ seriously.

All cardinals make this. It’s why they were red/scarlet.

Saint John Paul II was fairly dismissive of his Swiss guards and his bodyguards until he got shot, and then he appreciated them a lot more.

The Popes’ protectors have a legitimate job to do and they (the Popes) should help them do it. Too often it seems like they behave like some of our own political figures who go out without protection. Some of our Presidents have behaved in a somewhat similar fashion, playing hide and seek with the Secret Service; their children did this too.

Is there any logical and legitimate spiritual gain to be had from this behavior, or is it just an attitude? That is the question.

He cannot live behind armored - plated doors at home 24/7. And he counts on protection.
I do not know specific reason but I would bet they are practical. He would probably scare people ,he may want to be comfortable and accessible to be with people he gladly goes to meet.
He is one among brothers ,he used to take public transport .
He ’ d be concerned about others.
Besides ,were there a specific known threat intercepted or concrete he would probably wear it.
But to generalize panic , I do not think so. That isn t life…

Exactly. I’ve said it before, he’s simply living his vocation. He’s not going to be limited in tending to his flock and he’s not going to be cowed or made to fear by people who might want to keep him from doing that. And if something does happen, so be it seems to be his feeling on it. It may not be what the Swiss Guard and his security detail want to hear, but it’s a very valid position for a spiritual leader to take.

I mean this isn’t a president’s kid ditching his security detail to party. This is a man of God called to minister to people who is going to do that in the same way he always has, those that threaten him be damned. And yes Daesh is a real threat, so what. If we all live in constant fear of them and change what we do to an extreme (which wearing a bullet proof vest would be), they’ve won.

Blessed Cardinal Romero did the same.

A bullet proof vest is not living behind armored plated doors at home 24/7. A vest is a reasonable precaution that all of our uniformed police officers take.

It would be worn under his clothing, so it wouldn’t scare anyone. In fact, most people would have no idea that he was wearing one.

How did we get to know he wasn’ t wearing one ?
When one needs a life vest to give a Christmas speech…what is left for the other 364 days of the year…?
Anyway, what reasonable precaution is for one may not necessarily be so for the other.
I also do not know if would make him uncomfortable to breathe with his only one lung… Mine were just thoughts…
