“Pride affects every good deed; it empties prayer” and keeps God and others at a distance, Francis said. Humility, on the other hand, is necessary in order to receive mercy.
This is especially true of those liberals who dissent from the teachings of Jesus and place more importance on their political ideology. Their pride keeps them from acknowledging the need for mercy in the first place…sin. No sin…no need for mercy. But that is why Jesus included in the spiritual works of mercy these…

instruct the ignorant
counsel the doubtful
admonish sinners

We don’t hear about those works of mercy too much these days.

If I started on the ignorant I would have no time to do the washing up, which my wife tells me is a corporal act of charity too.
The doubtful seem to be all around me. I have come to the conclusion that it is me doing too much doubting.
Admonishing sinners is not my brief. I am too busy on my knees which is not conducive to admonishing.
Mercy surely comes from care for the poor; visiting the lonely; loving the unlovable. I don’t find judgement, admonishment or even instruction, except through example, high on my list. I leave that to my betters.
