I can see you are all brainwashed. It is perfectly all right to question what is going on in our Church. We are not all led around by the nose.
It is becoming common for ‘progressive’ Catholics to accuse the rest of us of being stupid. I have had problems with authority all my life, the only authority I have never questioned is that of the Church and for good reasons, I have no right, duty or need to do so. If I choose to accept that the Church is providing the unchanging teaching of 2,000 years coming from Jesus and His Apostles, then I have every right to do so.

The bishop in question was not merely calling for married and female priests, he was allowing laypeople to ‘concelebrate’ Mass, calling for the use of non-Catholic ministers to preside at Masses, encouraging services of general absolution as a substitute for confession and refusing to attend discussions in Rome about his views. He and his kind can find a sympathetic home in Anglicanism as did the notorious ex- Fr. Matthew Fox who preached all this as well as hedonism as a way to God! Why don’t they just go?

I… and the Pope who moved Cardinal Law from Boston to the Vatican to keep him out of jail for his part in moving those sick Priests around to other Parishes?
Keep him out of jail?? The State Attorney General, after a Grand Jury investigation in which the Cardinal participated, chose not to press any charges. In fact, the attorney general specifically noted that the Cardinal had broken no laws.

Does your version of Catholicism allow you to make false claims about people?

What amazes me most about this whole sad affair is that it really proves the OPPOSITE of what the dissenters and critics of the “authoritarian hierarchy” commonly assert. Bishop Morris held the reins of that diocese for DECADES. He had a large number of contacts with other bishops, Cardinals and even the pope himself attempting to correct him from his erroneous ideas and practices. It was not until he was inarguably defiant, not merely wayward that the Vatican took this action.

What this proves is that the Holy See has an enormous respect for the authority of the office of local bishop. If this were an Army base or a subidiary of G.E., the leader would have been gone in 3 weeks for similar defiance. And the more you read about it, the more it becomes clear that the pope cannot simply ‘fire’ a bishop. It appears here that he had to hold the threat of a canonical trial over him before Bshp Morris ceased resisting the request for his retirement.

Contrary to popular assertion, there is an ENORMOUS amount of freedom in intellectual and practical pursuits for the laity in the catholic church. I think of it as a huge western pasture range, where the rancher has put up barbed wire fences atop cliffs, bogs, quicksand and other innate hazards. Pity the horse who ignores the vast reaches to be explored and instead rages at the barbed fence that keeps him from where he wants to go! Practically every thriving orthodox ministry I’ve been involved with in the Church has been largely lay lead. Priests and religious are involved, of course, but the major work is done by laity. It is a tired canard to claim that those who refuse to dissent are ignoramuses satisfied with ‘pray, obey and pay’. The young, growing and vigorous movements of the church are all othodox. Pretty much every center of dissent I’ve ever come across inherited its assets from earlier generations and have been coasting on a glide path to dissolution. They never build, just leach on and tear down.

Excuse me! Cardinal Law was rushed out of Boston and they had him hiding in a Convent before he was brought to the Vatican. He covered up for the Priests who were sexually involved with young children and you stand up for him? It appears to me, you, who defend the actions of the people who ruin the Catholic Church are even worse than they are. It also appears to me, you are unable to accept any questions regarding the Catholic Church that you do not agree with? The Catholic Church is not perfect and the teachings of the Catholic Church are not always perfect, but you defend it as if everything was perfect. If you cannot stand up to a little criticism then there is defnitely something wrong.
Accept it, the Catholic Church needs to change and it will change after our present Pope. You who respond to me are all tied up in the BOX and are apparently afraid to question or to have anyone question their religion. I am Catholic, but not afraid to say the Church is flawed and they hadle a lot of thing very badly. If your faith is so weak that you cannot look at what is going on in the Church, then God Help You! There are Priest having relationships with women and men and then preaching how the rest of us are sinners. The speak with fork tongue. The should be removed from their duties instead of removing good Priests who only want to make the Church a better place of Spirituality. Im sure Jesus is looking down saying “What have they done to my Church?” Open your minds and hearts and think of the way Jesus lived his life. Im sure he would be horrified if he came here to day and saw the hypocrisy in the Catholic Church. It will be cleaned out Im sure and I cannot wait for the day when that happens

Be careful what you wish for.

Don’t you think he might have been hinting that you stay where you are, in communion with the successor of St. Peter?

Getting back to the original topic - the Pope has every right to sack a Bishop provided the Code of Canon Law has been followed.

CHAPTER II. LOSS OF ECCLESIASTICAL OFFICE
and each of the following: resignation, transfer, removal, privation.

Excuse me! Cardinal Law was rushed out of Boston and they had him hiding in a Convent before he was brought to the Vatican. He covered up for the Priests who were sexually involved with young children and you stand up for him?
I never said I was standing up for him. Rather, I will stand up for truthful statements.

Now what crime was\is he being charged with that would make your statement truthful?
and the Pope who moved Cardinal Law from Boston to the Vatican to keep him out of jail for his part in moving those sick Priests around to other Parishes
Who exactly was planning on arresting him?
You who respond to me are all tied up in the BOX and are apparently afraid to question or to have anyone question their religion.
No, we have questioned and have found the answeres, in the Enternal Truths taught by the Catholic Church.

Most of us here are not so arrogant that we claim to know more than than 2,000 years teachings by Christ’s Bride the Church on the subject of Sacredotal Theology.

The Catholic Church is not perfect and the teachings of the Catholic Church are not always perfect, but you defend it as if everything was perfect. If you cannot stand up to a little criticism then there is defnitely something wrong.

The CC has both human (imperfect) elements and the Divine (which is perfection.) God’s enemies have been trying to tear apart the Truth for a long time now, and prophecy has said that for awhile, it may even appear they have succeeded during this age of apostasy. So you will stand on the side of darkness against Christ Himself Who has promised, “the gates of hell will not prevail” against MY Church! Apparently you have also rejected the doctrine of the indefectibility of the Church. How sad for you (and frightening!)

Excuse me! Cardinal Law was rushed out of Boston and they had him hiding in a Convent before he was brought to the Vatican. He covered up for the Priests who were sexually involved with young children and you stand up for him?
I don’t think anyone is standing up for him but facts are facts and gossip is gossip. The facts are that the Boston police do not have any arrest warrants pending. In this country you are innocent until proven guilty. Also there is a difference between doing something wrong out of ignorance and doing something wrong out of malice.
It appears to me, you, who defend the actions of the people who ruin the Catholic Church are even worse than they are
.

No one here has defended their actions.
It also appears to me, you are unable to accept any questions regarding the Catholic Church that you do not agree with?
What do you mean by ‘accept questions’? We have repeatedly said that there is nothing wrong with asking questions. What is wrong is tossing out the answers because you don’t like the answer. The answer is what it is.
The Catholic Church is not perfect and the teachings of the Catholic Church are not always perfect, but you defend it as if everything was perfect. If you cannot stand up to a little criticism then there is defnitely something wrong.
The Catholic Church is perfect and so are the Church teachings on faith and morals. That is Biblical and undeniable. But many can’t see the forest for the trees. You see only the people in the Church and yes, they are sinners. Each and every one of us in the Church are sinners but the Church herself is protected from flaw by the Holy Spirit. If you don’t accept that concept then you have no reason to be Catholic because then Truth doesn’t matter and is unknowable.
Accept it, the Catholic Church needs to change and it will change after our present Pope. You who respond to me are all tied up in the BOX and are apparently afraid to question or to have anyone question their religion.
You know, people have been saying this for 2000 years. Hasn’t happened yet.
I am Catholic, but not afraid to say the Church is flawed and they hadle a lot of thing very badly.
The Church is not flawed but the people do make mistakes and do sin.
If your faith is so weak that you cannot look at what is going on in the Church, then God Help You! There are Priest having relationships with women and men and then preaching how the rest of us are sinners. The speak with fork tongue.
no one is ignoring the sinners in the Church. And it is the duty of every Catholic who has evidence of sinful behavior on the part of a priest to report that priest to the Bishop.
The should be removed from their duties instead of removing good Priests who only want to make the Church a better place of Spirituality.
I doubt good priests are being removed for no good reason. Disobedient priests will be removed. Priests who think they should run the Church regardless of what their superiors say.
Good thing that Jesus loves all of us sinners. Good thing that the Holy Spirit protects the Church.

I think the Pope could sack a lot more bishops, if he had proof. There have been many bishops who did not believe all the Church taught. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the integrity to resign.

I remember some time back when a certain little nun who ran a particular Catholic TV station said some disparaging remarks about a particular high-ranking member of the clergy out west. At a meeting of bishops, one of them got up and said they needed to get rid of the little nun with the big mouth because nuns shouldn’t be going around making disparaging remarks about the hierarchy. One bishop stood up and said, “You’re right. Nuns shouldn’t be making disparaging remarks about members of the hierarchy. We should get rid of her. BUT, before we do, I have a list of 178 bishops who openly defy the teachings of the Church and the authority of the Holy Father. I say we get rid of them first!” The room became deadly silent and the topic was not brought up again.
i THINK i KNOW WHICH LITTLE NUN THAT WAS-GOD BLESS YOU MOTHER ANGELICA

What an excellent true story. I love it. Now, perhaps, the other people who are jumping down my neck for what I am saying, will realize what I am trying to say… Lets here more chatter on all of this.

You realize, don’t you, that the bishops in the “true story” would have been in the same boat as the Bishop in the OP? The one you have been defending?
