Okay, straight off – I AM NOT CATHOLIC. I’m no theologian. I don’t even regularly attend any church services of my own choice. So, where do I get off commenting on this?

I’m just sort of stirring the pot.

If family is so important, why were the first two human beings made NOT to be sexually active? They were to live a celibate life? Only when Eve listened to Satan did they get kicked out and told to go make lots and lots of kids.

If family is so important, why are priests and nuns not allowed to marry and create families?

Just asking. (And yes, I’ve read Genesis)

There’s a story about the speech @ catholicnewsagency.com/news/pope-francis-off-the-cuff-family-is-the-most-beautiful-thing-god-made-55983/

I’m not sure they were made to be celibate(Adam and Eve) They were told to be fruitful and multiply before the fall into sin. That would involve having relations, but sex would be a whole lot different that it is looked at today.
Something quite beautiful.
And I absolutely think the family is the most beautiful thing God mad.

The answer to celibacy for nuns and priests may be found in the sayings of Jesus when he said about being single for the sake of the Kingdom. There is also nothing wrong about being celibate.

Yes, marriage and family are a beautiful thing but it is not required for every single person. Are all Lutherans required to get married? Saying one thing is beautiful is different from saying it is a requirement for everyone.

Yes, a family is such a beautiful thing. I love my family and even though we have our moments, man I wouldn’t trade them or regret being in this family

Although we did not know it until Jesus came, God is a community of loving persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. When man was made in the image and likeness of God, this is most apparent in the family, which is also a community of loving persons.

Although priests and consecrated religious do no marry, they do form loving communities in religious orders and as spouses of Christ. The whole Church is a loving community referred to in Sacred Scripture as both the Body of Christ, and the spotless bride of Christ. Even priests and bishops who do not belong to religious orders frequently refer to their brother priests and brother bishops, because the Church is very much a family, consisting of other families. It is a family of families.

As another poster already said, the command to increase and multiply came before the fall. We were always intended to be sexual beings by our Creator, but only in the loving community of a family, which consists of husband, wife, and children.

I think I’m being misunderstood here. There is absolutely nothing wrong with celibacy and as a matter a fact I support it in some cases. I think religious orders are great. And not all Lutherans, like in other denominations, get married, in fact we had a pastor that was never married and in his 40’s.
I was responding to the OP asking why the first two people, Adam and Eve, were created to be celibate-meaning that if the fall hadn’t happened they would not have procreated- if I understood the OP correctly? and I was answering that I don’t think they were meant to be celibate and never procreate- they were given the command to be fruitful and multiply even before the fall.
I was in no way condemning celibacy since then.
