No no, I wasn’t trying to make a point. It was an honest question. I have never thought of Jesus as Protestant or Catholic.

To be honest with you, I dont think of Jesus as Protestant or Catholic myself.

Anyone have a problem with that?

If you wish to call Jesus a protester of Pharisees, thats fine with me.

If you wish to call him a Protestant I am curious which Protestant denomination you think he is.

Which denomination was Martin Luther? My point is that it doesn’t matter. Jesus protested against the teaching of the Pharisees.

A “protestant” is someone who “protests”. In that sense, Jesus is a protestant.

A “catholic” is someone who lives “according to what is lived everywhere, at all times”. In that sense, Jesus is a catholic.

Jesus: both protestant and catholic!

In a recent document that was released, the Pope gets down to serious business of affirming that there is only ONE Christian Church out there, and it is the Catholic Church. I say, “Way to Go!” I think that it is time to assert that there ARE differences between the so called churches out there, and I like the Pope’s idea that we all need to come together under one proper banner of true teaching. After all, with the upswing in the Muslim population, and their continued unfettered onslaught against Christians world wide, it think that the protestants and other faiths outside the Pope’s teaching would do well to unify under one banner. This, my friends, is going to be the secret to survival in the coming troubled time with Islam.

Now please do me the service of not going off on me about that politically driven “Religion of Peace” stuff…I am not buying. What I want to discuss here are the comments of the Pope and what we can do to make protestants see the light of things.

Lutheran, they just decided on that name once the denomination was stabilized, before that he was Catholic.

Jesus told everyone to listen to the Pharisees, just don’t do the evil they did.

Just like the Catholic Church today, don’t do the evil that many Catholics do, yet listen to the teachings of Jesus.

Does truth matter?

Everyone did listen to the Pharisees. Then Jesus was crucified. They were supposed to listen to Jesus.

Ok… not everyone! I know I’ll get hit with that.

So the Pope says the RCC is the one true Church… the authority in all matters of faith. Well… there is a similarity between that claim and the Pharisees. We learned from the Word not to go around making such claims to authority. The Word is the authority as Jesus demonstrated. The RCC has strayed from that teaching.

Exactly! He said to listen to them because they sit in the Seat of Moses. Now He has given His authority to the one who sits in the Seat of Peter ("…for whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven…")

The Word is Jesus Christ, and Christ, the King, when leaving this place gave His “keys” to Peter, to be His Vicar on earth. I would say that the Church has preserved this truth well. 😛

You are wrong in this one. Most of the friends I had growing up (here in the US) are Protestant, and I am married to a non-Catholic as well. That is why I said I was not going to mention any denominations, and I’m not going to name them.
