Grace_Seeker, I don’t feel I really need to respond to you but I will just the same. Your so upset that I agreed with another poster about the Catholic Church being the one and only. Well for one it is and second Protestants say we are a cult one that deviates from our Lord. I will say and believe what I wish to believe in and what I know to be true. Just as you will do the same.

Your just a typical Catholic hating person and you have to deal with that not me. We as Catholics will take care of our own and will make sure that bad priests stay away and receive the punishment they deserve. I have more comments but I prefer to keep them to myself.

I’m proud to be Catholic and I hold my head up high. I will not allow you or anyone else to make me feel ashamed or hang my head for you to make you happy. This is one Catholic that will never become of your faith.
4EVER_Catholic,

Well, you don’t have to respond to me, but I do have to respond to your post.

I am guilty of being upset when a Catholic says that they have the one true chuch and no other ecclesiastical communities are either churches or part of the Church that Christ created. I feel the same when any other group says that, not just Catholics.

I am not guilty of being a Catholic hater. Not only do I have no problem with your choice of being Catholic, I would not try to tell you that your church is wrong and not a church or not Christian. I don’t believe that. A fair portion of my own family is Catholic, and I have never tried to persuade them otherwise, why would I want you to leave the Catholic church. You assume waaaay too much regarding me if this is what you think.

I do disagree with a couple of points of Catholic theology. The only one that I find offensive is its view of itself as the exclusive holders of all the truths of scripture and the Christian faith. That particular view I do find offensive, not just to me personally, but to the great cause of Christ in this world. Scripture tells us that as far as depends on us we are to live in love and harmony with one another in this world. Given that we are to treat even enemies of Christ this way, surely we can treat our brothers and sisters in the body of Christ with some degree of respect.

I don’t hate you or your church. You have slandered me with unfounded and erroneous accusations. If you believe that Protestants see the Catholic church as a cult (oh, sure there are probably a few crazies that do, but not the whole), then you are not listening well. I wish you love and peace and joy in Christ. I pray that if you are married and have children that God blesses you with the opportunity to raise them in the faith and see them mature as strong, faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. I pray that you are blessed by the active presence of the Spirit of Christ moving in and through your life to guide and direct you in the will of God, both for living your own life and relating to others. May he give you opportunities to share the inexhaustible love of Christ with many and give you the will and ability to respond accordingly. And may you be sanctified by his grace to all righteousness until at last by his grace you enter the kingdom prepared for all who have given their lives over to him.

That is the wish and prayer of this “catholic-hater” for you.

I loved Pope John Paul II, so I was a little wary of Pope Benedict, but I’m loving him more every day! :heaven:

I can hardly wait to see what’s next! 😃
i got to say I adirme Pope Benedict just merly for telling it as it is in his view. not the same with Pope John Paul II who I cant see was bold with truth to his view. bit pafcist confusing about it in style of words shy away. funnily enough pope bendict for the kind guy as he is most likey cause more convserty to protestants and the rest! the rest need it as world get more selcur.

The doctrine of total depravity is a Calvinist doctrine. Not all protestants are Calvinists.
Sorry, EA, if I come off as oversimplifying.

“Total depravity,” strictly speaking, is a Calivinist doctrine (the “T” in the TULIP, right?).

However, the notion that Original Sin removed all grace from the human soul is, I believe, more widely believed among Protestants than just among Calvinists. Was it not Luther (before Calvin) who described the fallen human soul as a heap of dung that could only enter God’s presence by being wholly covered with the “snow” of justification?

Catholics and Orthodox, on the other hand, believe that Original/Ancestral Sin deformed the soul but did not remove absolutely all grace. Pagans, after all, still have a sense of natural law and possess and listen to their consciences.

Anyway, EA, isn’t it true that many Anglicans don’t even consider themselves “Protestants” (but rather see themselves on the “via media” that made possible the rise of such as Wesley and the return of a most un-Calvinist notion of sanctification)?

But you need to take a longer look in the mirror if you really think that this issue is more of a non-Catholic problem. The level of pride you yourself have in the way your church handles these things may be somewhat misplaced.
As I said in the post to which you responded here: “Your lack of humility in this regard troubles me.”
