Why does everything end up being an argument? Why do all of these threads end up being a “We’re right, you’re wrong” discussion? For goodness sake people, we are Christians! We love the same God, we strive to live Godly lives. We are all one body! So what that we can’t agree on everything! We will be worshiping side by side in Heaven someday, and that’s all that matters.
Yep. 👍

I tend to agree with Stacie. How is this helping ecumenism, something Pope Benedict XVI claimed was a high priority for his papacy?
It doesn’t help ecumenism. IMO, the Vatican screwed this one up.

And you base this in what?

I would rather be hated for telling the Truth than loved for denying the Truth.

Ecumenism? What does that mean-we water down the truth so others will like us better?

You are aware tha the Vatican didnt say anythig new today? You are aware that this is the consistent teaching of the Church for the last 2,000 years?

Agreed-wondering why peoples stubbornness made it necessary for the Pope reiterate this basic Truth one more time.
In an age of relativism, people can’t believe statements of absolute truth, and they can’t believe that the Pope can be serious about such things in this day and age.

The Vatican screwed nothing up. The Vatican simply repeated what has always been the teaching of the Church. It’s in the current Catechism that Pope John Paul II had a personal hand in putting together. The problem is society’s belief that it can do what ever it wants and no one has the right to say no. Also for some reason some people seem to think this particular teaching was done a with. The fact is it wasn’t!

When you are trying to put out a fire (in this case trying to heal the rifts in Christianity), you don’t throw gasoline on it (ticking off non-catholic Christians). Common Sense!!

Read my post #173.

So the Pope says the RCC is the one true Church… the authority in all matters of faith. Well… there is a similarity between that claim and the Pharisees. We learned from the Word not to go around making such claims to authority. The Word is the authority as Jesus demonstrated. The RCC has strayed from that teaching.
But the authority was given to the pope by Jesus himself. To bind and loose… as well as the keys to the kingdom

The truth is the truth, and sometimes it hurts… I mean I could not recall how many times the Catholic church has been called the whore of babylon by protestants, even though it is untrue. This is the truth though. Continue to search for truth in the bible because the catholic church is the one who compiled the book and declared it inspired. I always tell my protestant brothers and sister that Jesus refers to the holy spirit as being the spirit of truth. So continue to read your bibles but dont stop looking for that truth and praying because God eventually will point you in the right direction.

A Catholic Christian

And today am proud to call B16 papa. Nothing lukewarm over here.

I did not think I needed to be more specific, for one so smart as you.
Rolling eyes are the best you can do?

Yet you can not find my OWN WORDS to be held against me?

Is this called bearing false witness in YOUR faith?

Or can any accusation fly?

Tone down how you speak to me please.
