Pope Says There is Only One True Church

Stacie, how can we be a unified body if our Protestant brothers and sisters do not recognize that they are not under the same banner, that they are not following His all of His precepts? Sugar coating the truth isn’t going to accomplish anything except tear US apart. So much of what makes the Catholic Church great is how She has always stuck to her guns and never changed or wavered from those dogmatic truths that make Her the One True Church. We have to share the truth with them or how else will they know?

In the meantime we need to remain as one body in that Truth. To be Catholic is to believe that our Holy Father and the Magisterium of our Church will not lead us astray. This whole conversation is based on what has come from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and signed off on by Pope Benedict. As Catholics, is it right that we nit pick it to death? The Magisterium said it. I believe it.
As I said before, by all means, argue away

Just for clarification the rest of the paragraph says:
Well, to that I would say that we derive our fullness of faith from Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior:thumbsup:

Besides(without arguing)the CC is the one that says they are the only church. Anyone can call themselves whatever they want I suppose, but the bible just doesnt back that up so that is why I have a difficult time with the CC definition of the church.🤷

But I do appreciate your sharing this info. for me:thumbsup:

Hmmm it says at the end… “but according to their works DO YE NOT

Jesus is pointing out how they are hypocrites and don’t do as they do.
He shows you the quote and you find away around Christ’s words.

He is saying that the pharisees are the authority of the faith at that time and that they were bound to listen to them in areas of doctrine because of that authority. However, they obviously were not practicing what they preached, so Christ warned them not to do what they did that contradicted the righteous doctrine.

Christ was not anti-authority. Matthew 5:17: Do not think that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.

All the debate that goes on in this forum is proof positive that we need to have a final earthly authority (the Pope and Magisterium) to discern the Bible.

Yet he did not come out and retract previous teachings that you can be saved by other religions, which is a good thing.
Once again, you use the language of Protestants, yet have Catholic on your profile. And you claim to be an EM. I’m still not sure what THAT is…

“Peter” is a metaphor for all of humanity, not one person is how some interpretations go. Or you could interpret it as there is a rock inside of all of us to build the church inside ourselves to go out into the world.
Now that’s a personal interpretation I have never seen before!

Amen! First he tells them to listen and obey whatever they say, because they sit in a seat of authority that God established (Chair of Moses), and then he points out not to follow their works because they are hypocrites and do not do what they preach.

It’s the same today. The authority the pope has lies in the “Chair of Peter” that Christ established. We should listen and obey because of that authority, but we need not do what they do if they are not practicing what they are preaching.

However, neither situation says to stop listening and obeying even when and if they fail to practice what they preach.

👍

This wasn’t about who’s fault it was, this was about whether or not there was anything wrong with believing something false (especially in matters with such extreme consequences.)
Isn’t it true that we believe that non-Catholics can go to heaven? All that I have said does not go against the Catholic church.

We share the same beliefs. Anti-abortion, strong moral values, faith in Jesus and the Trinity. You don’t have to ram, “we are the true church” down their throats.

And yes, I do think we should sugar coat it. That is the problem with life today - Not enough sugar coating.

How about, we could show them we are Christians by our love.

Hello,

I enjoyed reading this thread. Based on your comment above I believe this link would help one find the one true church:

catholic.com/library/pillar.asp

I hope this helps.

Thanks,

Luiz

Woooops…sorry…the Bible actually does back that up.

I think you must have misunderstood what I was trying to say.

Anyway, the world today has so much sugar-coating that one would be hard pressed to taste whatever the food that’s being sugared is.

It is possible to tell the truth without any sugar-coating and yet not come across as a jerk. Tact, honesty and charity are what’s needed, not sugar-coating. Our spiritual teeth are rotten with many cavities as it is. 😉

Now THAT is funny. Nothing cracks me up more than protestants trying to rewrite the Bible.
Charity brother.

Its not funny to see how some think Peter the man was a metaphor.

I for one am willing to hear out their explaination…

🙂

I am sure you are too!😉

Explain to this Catholic how I am reading it wrong please.

Or will you dissapear too everytime I ask that question?
Is there a particular passage you wish to discuss?

How about Ephesians 4?
3Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to one hope when you were called— 5one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

To me it says that as long as we all belong to the one and the same Jesus that we also all belong equally to one another. But in Catholic circles I am told that I am not a full brother in Christ, but at best “separated brethern”.

Also- All for Him-
