You go to all the trouble of hunting down deer so that you can find food?!Yep!!
Thanks for finding the text.
Actually, I think he is saying that those countries who make weapons are calling themselves Christian yet they are selling them for their own profit to the highest bidder and not using them to defend those who are persecuted. This is not an unusual thing for a pope to say; and something Francis has alluded to before.Hes preaching against weapons, but then asks why no one used weapons.
Might make for a good encyclical
By the way, for those who don’t know it, the USA is the worlds largest arms merchant. I wouldn’t be surprised if he brings it up again when he is in front of the US congress.
Perhaps that is what he should actually say then instead of making blanket judgements.IMHO, he is pointing out that what Eisenhower called the ‘military industrial complex’ does not have a good track record of acting like Christians. Instead they are after their own power and monetary gain at the expense of the poor, persecuted and down trodden. Yet that same group calls themselves Christian. Well, I think he is saying, if they call themselves Christian, they need to act the part; and so far they are not.
It is a very traditional Christian message.
I would look at executives of public corporations the same way I look at government workers. In both cases, the deck is stacked in favor of the worker which can definitely result in people being overpaid. If you own a private corporation and you pay someone $1 million a year, it is clearly because you value their services at $1 million and every dollar you pay above their maximum value to the firm is a dollar that comes out of your pocket. But in the case of public corporations, you have the board of directors spending shareholder money, which by and large is not their own money. People just are not as prudent when they are spending other people’s money.Corporate executives aren’t entitled to their wages? Don’t they work?
Your the one saying it is a blanket judgement. He was just answering questions. If you want an encyclical or a congressional speech, you need to wait for it.Perhaps that is what he should actually say then instead of making blanket judgements.
Yes, there is the thrill of the hunt. Not my cup of tea, but if they use the meat, then I have no problem with it. In fact I wish they would do a better job around my farm; the things are like cockroaches and devour everything in site. You go to all the trouble of hunting down deer so that you can find food?!
You take NO pleasure whatsoever in the hunt itself?!
And what do deer go around doing, which deems it necessary to you, for individuals to go around ‘culling’ them?
Are you paid by the government or wildlife experts to take such matters into your own hands?
Well yes thats exactly what is sounded like. And I am not the only one who feels that way. The media seems to have interpreted it that way as well.Your the one saying it is a blanket judgement.
Did cavemen use guns? I didn’t think that guns had been invented at that time, and yet, evolution still occurred without guns, which must mean, that these cavemen were successful in their hunting trips! Some people use weapons to hunt for food and for a living. Weapons arent only for wars. Or does the Pope have a forthcoming vegan encyclical in mind?
I think it is best to read more about pope Francis and also wait to see if he says more about the topic. As I already said, he has in the past and my guess is that he will in the future; this is something he cares about.Well yes thats exactly what is sounded like. And I am not the only one who feels that way.
Getting off topic, but it’s pretty easy to make the case that skills required to run a multi-billion dollar company are worth a million or even several million dollars per year. Very few people have that skillset.I would look at executives of public corporations the same way I look at government workers. Even if hunting beautiful animals for pleasure’s sake is sick in itself? So deer come along and devour everything on your farm? The first time I have ever read someone describing one of our Creator’s beautiful creatures as a “cockroach”!Yes, there is the thrill of the hunt. Not my cup of tea, but if they use the meat, then I have no problem with it. In fact I wish they would do a better job around my farm; the things are like cockroaches and devour everything in site.
My thought as well. Surely the Pope is protected by some pretty high-tech weaponry…Anyway, I’ve seen pics of the Vatican Armoury. Nice newer Sig 550s they have. And Glocks with the keys right on them.
Cavemen also used those spears and clubs that were intended for hunting to impale and bludgeon other cavemen in fights. If we were in cavemen times, the Pope would be condemning spears and clubs.Did cavemen use guns? I didn’t think that guns had been invented at that time, and yet, evolution still occurred without guns, which must mean, that these cavemen were successful in their hunting trips!
Huh??? Shooting with high-accuracy instruments such as rifles with scopes is much more painless, humane way to kill a deer than chasing it with spears or using crude slings. Deer hunters aim for the heart, and modern instruments reduce the margin of error.Did cavemen use guns? I didn’t think that guns had been invented at that time, and yet, evolution still occurred without guns, which must mean, that these cavemen were successful in their hunting trips!
I agree that few people have that skill set. The problem is, you have people like Carly Fiorina who did not have that skill set and still got paid millions anyway. Or Bob Nardelli. Like I said, I have no problem with the fact that they make millions, if you want to hire someone and pay them $100 million a year, I look at that as your business, not mine. But, there is a unique problem with public corporations that distorts incentives and can result in people being overpaid. It comes from the separation of ownership from control of corporations. This is exactly the same problem we have with government workers as well. Many government workers have unique skills sets that cannot be replaced with minimum wage workers. But, when the deck is stacked in their favor, it can result in a high wage being unjustifiably higher.Getting off topic, but it’s pretty easy to make the case that skills required to run a multi-billion dollar company are worth a million or even several million dollars per year. Very few people have that skillset.
Maybe for you it sick, for others, not so much.Even if hunting beautiful animals for pleasure’s sake is sick in itself? So deer come along and devour everything on your farm? The first time I have ever read someone describing one of our Creator’s beautiful creatures as a “cockroach”!

If my wife enjoyed shopping at the grocery store, including purchasing beef and chicken, is that unjust? You go to all the trouble of hunting down deer so that you can find food?!
You take NO pleasure whatsoever in the hunt itself?!

It is becoming increasingly evident that Pope Francis is very selective in his judgement, or lack thereof.I guess “who am I to judge?” only applies to some folks.
